Iraq's PMU Hails Historic Funeral for Martyred Leader as Triumph of People's Coordination with Holy Shrines

Iraq's Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), known as Hashd al-Sha'abi, have stated that the successful hosting of the multi-million-strong funeral procession for the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution in the holy cities of Najaf and Karbala was the result of extensive service, engineering, and logistical planning.

Hawzah News Agency- According to Ahmed Abbas al-Maliki, director of the PMU's Service, Engineering, Supply, and Transportation Department, preparations began more than ten days before the official announcement of the funeral ceremony. The measures included formulating comprehensive plans covering transportation, public services, and emergency management to ensure the smooth flow of participants.

Coordination with State Institutions and Security Apparatuses

Al-Maliki explained that the PMU, in coordination with Iraq's Ministry of Transportation, mobilized buses, trains, and other vehicles while organizing crowd direction and the distribution of water, food, and essential services along the funeral routes. Engineering operations were also carried out to rehabilitate roads and establish helipads for emergency air ambulances.

He noted that the expertise accumulated by the Hashd al-Sha'abi during years of combating the ISIS terrorist group is now being deployed to manage large-scale public events. Al-Maliki stressed that alongside its security duties, the PMU is strengthening its service-oriented role.

'Hashd at Your Service'

Al-Maliki concluded by affirming that the PMU continues to develop its engineering and service capabilities under the slogan "Hashd at Your Service," enabling it to remain present during mass pilgrimages, service projects, and emergency responses. He emphasized that the success of the funeral ceremony reflects an advanced level of planning, coordination, and institutional action in service of the Iraqi people.
