Hawzah News Agency- Speaking at a mourning ceremony held Sunday night at the Imam Khomeini portico of the holy shrine in Mashhad, Hojatoleslam Esmaeil Moghri, former Friday prayer leader of Nishapur, said the Iranian nation is simultaneously experiencing two great scenes: the sorrow and tears over the loss of their beloved leader, and the magnificent display of popular presence and an unprecedented farewell, reflecting the depth of affection and heartfelt bond between the nation and their leader.
He noted that in recent days, various dimensions of the Martyr Leader's personality are being discussed in all circles, adding that this is his natural right, for he was not merely a political leader but a spiritual, educational, intellectual, moral, and mystical guide for the people of Iran and many other nations, leading society in multiple arenas.
Hojatoleslam Moghri stated that the Martyr Leader needed no introduction, as the Iranian people, throughout his years of leadership, felt his sincerity, spirituality, benevolence, compassion, and honesty with their entire being. It was this practical recognition, he said, that became the source of love, devotion, and the massive popular turnout at his farewell ceremonies.
Scholarly Eminence Among the Seminaries
He highlighted the scholarly stature of the Martyr Leader as one of the most prominent dimensions of his character, describing him as a figure of academic distinction among the Islamic seminaries, a personality with vast and rare knowledge in Islamic sciences as well as political, international, and social affairs, considered a genius of the era in many fields.
The Razavi shrine speaker added that the Martyr Leader, in addition to his mastery of seminary sciences, was also an authority on global developments, international politics, and contemporary issues, noting that few scholars can be found with such comprehensiveness across diverse fields of knowledge.
Recommending the study of the Martyr Leader's Quranic works, he remarked that his exegetical writings demonstrate that he was not merely a transmitter of others' views in the field of Quranic interpretation, but rather, with an innovative approach, extracted the teachings of the Quran and linked them to the needs of society.
Hojatoleslam Moghri emphasized that the Martyr Leader addressed verses that had received less attention and extracted the concepts of jihad, governance, social responsibility, resistance, and Islamic management from the heart of Quranic verses, bringing them into the fabric of society.
He noted that the lectures delivered during the holy month of Ramadan in 1974 in Mashhad, later published under the title "Foundations of Islamic Governance," stand as valuable examples of this innovative approach to the Holy Quran.
Strengthening the Spirit of the Nation Through Quranic Verses
The religious scholar pointed to the Martyr Leader's use of Quranic verses to strengthen the morale of the people, highlighting that he repeatedly expounded upon verses related to Prophet Moses and the Children of Israel, the Battle of the Trench, and divine promises, demonstrating that even in the most difficult circumstances, the promise of divine victory is certain.
The Razavi shrine speaker added that through the interpretation of these verses, the Martyr Leader strengthened the spirit of reliance on God, hope, trust in the Almighty, and resistance within society, raising a generation that has shown up in the toughest arenas with faith and steadfastness.
He identified the promotion of Quranic culture across the country as another great service of the Martyr Leader, stressing that he himself was a reciter, a Quranic scholar, and an outstanding exegete who meticulously supervised the recitation styles of Quran reciters and taught them specialized points of Talawa.
Hojatoleslam Moghri underscored that the Martyr Leader, through consistent support for Quranic circles, the training of reciters and memorizers, the organization of Quranic gatherings, and the plan to train millions of Quran memorizers, laid the groundwork for a great movement in the field of the Quran, to the extent that today the Islamic Republic of Iran holds a distinguished position in international Quran competitions.
Referring to the personal conduct of the Martyr Leader, he recalled that he himself acted upon Quranic recommendations more than anyone else and always invited the people to daily recitation of the Quran accompanied by contemplation.
Quran as the Axis of Islamic Society's Development
Citing a narration from Imam Reza (PBUH) regarding completing the Quran with reflection on its verses, the shrine speaker said the Martyr Leader consistently emphasized that the true benefit of the Quran lies in contemplation and understanding the divine messages, not merely in reciting the words.
He pointed to the Quranic directive to the Holy Prophet regarding nightly recitation, noting that the Martyr Leader, inspired by such teachings, placed the Quran at the center of individual and societal development. Through his constant communion with the divine word, he left behind an enduring model of religious, moral, and Quranic leadership for the Islamic Ummah.
Hojatoleslam Moghri further recounted a memory from Imam Khomeini's historic return from France to Iran, noting that companions narrated how the late Imam sought a place to perform his night prayers during the flight. After coordinating with the flight crew, the upper deck of the Boeing aircraft was made available to him, and he performed his night prayers there. This conduct, he said, demonstrates that a sustained connection with God and the Quran liberates the human being from worldly attachments.
Quoting the luminous words of the Commander of the Faithful, Imam Ali (PBUH), that "the Creator is magnified in their souls, so all else becomes small in their eyes," he stated that whenever the greatness of God settles in the human heart, the world becomes small and worthless in one's sight, and material attachments can no longer enslave the individual.
He warned that distancing oneself from spirituality leads to a dead end, adding that behaviors contrary to the divine nature of the human being, however much they may appear to be accompanied by freedom, ultimately lead to depression, anxiety, the collapse of personality, and even suicide.
Hojatoleslam Moghri acknowledged that many Western societies today, despite enjoying abundant material resources, are caught in a crisis of spirituality and family breakdown, with high rates of suicide, depression, and moral harms serving as indicators of the failure of a lifestyle distant from God.
Citing the Quranic verse "Indeed, this Quran guides to that which is most upright," he affirmed that the Holy Quran guides humanity to the firmest path because it is a book in harmony with human nature, conscience, and genuine needs. It is only in the light of acting upon its teachings that one can attain true peace and felicity.
