Hawzah News Agency - The Vatican shows statistics indicating Catholicism garners more followers than children born every day, but it still falls short of the leading religion: Islam
According to the Annuarium Statisticum Ecclesiae released by the Vatican, the number of Catholics across the globe has outgrown the population growth in each country.
Africa showed a 41 percent jump in Catholicism while the population only grew 23.8 percent. Other countries mimicked the trend, which also indicated there was an increase of bishops across the world - most of which came from Asia and Africa.
Unfortunately, there "was a decrease in female religious of 10.2 per cent overall between 2005 and 2015."
Reports says Islam is set to overtake Christianity as the world's largest religion by the end of the century if it continues to gather converts at its current rate.
According to the Pew Research Center, Muslims are expected to jump by 73 percent from 2010 to 2050, while Christians will only increase by 35 percent.
Should Islam reach 73 percent, it will compose 30 percent of the world's estimated 2.8 billion population.
The Vatican sources claim the reasons of Islam Grows is first being the significantly higher birthrate among Muslims versus non-Muslims, the second reason is the age.The median age of Muslims falls at 23-years-old, the perfect age to begin a family.
Whether the current trend will continue remains to be seen, but it is important to note that people who identify as atheists, agnostics, and "unaffiliated" have a lower fertility rate at 1.7 children per woman.
These statistics indicate a possible future in which Islam has the potential to become the world's major religion.
