Grand Ayatollah Nouri Hamedani: Ayatollah Yazdi (RA) Unified Religion and Politics

Grand Ayatollah Nouri Hamedani has praised the late Ayatollah Mohammad Yazdi (RA) as a distinguished scholar who successfully integrated religion and politics, describing him as an exemplary figure for the younger generation to emulate.

Hawzah News Agency- In a detailed message addressed to the national conference titled “Leaders of the Islamic Movement; Ayatollah Yazdi (RA)” held on Thursday in Qom, Grand Ayatollah Nouri Hamedani underscored the elevated status of Islamic scholarship and the critical role played by leading clerics in safeguarding religious principles and guiding society.

“The example of scholars is like stars guiding people through darkness”

Citing the saying of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) that likens scholars to guiding stars that illuminate the darkness of land and sea, the senior cleric noted that Islamic tradition places unmatched emphasis on knowledge and its bearers. He stressed that the Quran and hadiths repeatedly honor scholars as protectors of faith, inheritors of the prophetic mission, and mediators granted divine intercession.

He emphasized that the true scholar—praised extensively in Islamic teachings—is one who safeguards the intellectual and spiritual boundaries of the community. Quoting Imam Sadiq (PBUH), he described genuine scholars as “barriers” preventing Satanic influence from reaching vulnerable believers.

Ayatollah Yazdi (RA): A steadfast scholar, revolutionary, and guardian of Islamic governance

Reflecting on his six decades of personal familiarity with Ayatollah Yazdi (RA), Grand Ayatollah Nouri Hamedani described him as a scholar of history, an administrator, and a strategic thinker. Prior to the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Yazdi was known as a prominent seminary professor and an influential figure in preaching and religious propagation. His commitment to intellectual freedom and principled discourse, the message noted, marked him as a leading figure of his era.

He emphasized Ayatollah Yazdi’s early and unwavering support for the movement led by Imam Khomeini (RA), noting that he endured imprisonment and exile in pursuit of the revolution’s objectives. Following the victory of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Yazdi played an instrumental role in establishing and strengthening the Islamic system through various political and judicial responsibilities.

In the post-Imam era, Grand Ayatollah Nouri Hamedani stated, Ayatollah Yazdi remained a loyal supporter of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, consistently defending the principles of the Guardianship of the Jurist (Velayat-e Faqih) despite facing criticism and personal hardship.

The Grand Ayatollah highlighted Yazdi’s lifelong piety, sense of duty, and steadfast integration of religious commitment with political responsibility. “He was a hard-working personality who brought religion and politics together, and he stands as a valuable role model for the youth,” he stated.

Concluding his message, Grand Ayatollah Nouri Hamedani expressed gratitude to the organizers of the conference and prayed for the continued success of all participants and institutions working to preserve and advance Islamic thought.
