Growing solidarity for Palestine worldwide since start of 2026

Despite the collapse of legal frameworks and the absence of effective protection for Palestine and its people, public solidarity with the Palestinian cause has not faded.

Hawzah News Agency- Since the beginning of the genocide, demonstrations and acts of support have continued across the world, appearing in streets, squares, and public events. New Year’s Eve became another moment to express this collective stance.

Palestinian flags dominated celebrations in many countries, which turned moments of joy into visible statements of resistance and remembrance. Day by day, people around the globe continue to reaffirm, through their actions and presence, that their support for the Palestinian people and their victims remains ongoing not necessarily on a special occasion.

In Istanbul, Humanity Alliance and the National Will Platform organized a massive pro-Palestine rally on New Year’s Day, January 1, 2026. Around 520,000 people gathered on Galata Bridge after streaming in from the courtyards of the city’s major mosques in the early hours of the morning, chanting slogans in support of Palestine and condemning Israel.

Participants said the rally was a way to express solidarity with Palestinians enduring harsh winter conditions under siege, emphasizing that while they could not join them in Gaza, their presence was meant to affirm that humanity and awareness of the Palestinian plight remain alive.

Solidarity actions for Palestine have continued to take creative forms, reflecting sustained public engagement with the situation in Gaza. On January 29, hundreds of people gathered at Somorrostro beach in Barcelona, where participants collectively unfolded a 1,000 square meter canvas bearing the portrait of Hind Rajab, the 5-year-old girl who was shot dead by Israeli soldiers while traveling in a car with her relatives on January 29, 2024 in Gaza.

The large-scale display, covering a wide section of the beach, aimed to draw attention to the suffering of children in Gaza and to highlight the impact of the war on the Palestinian civilian population. Attendees took part in the coordinated deployment of the canvas, turning the shoreline into a visual space of protest and remembrance, while organizers described the action as an effort to break international silence and raise awareness through peaceful and symbolic means.

On the same day, the football coach, Pep Guardiola who manages Manchester City football club, voiced his support for Palestinian children at the Act x Palestine charity event held at Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona. Guardiola appeared wearing a black and white Palestinian Kuffiyah and addressed the audience about the plight of children who have lost their parents during the war in Gaza.

Speaking to those gathered, he pointed out that he is concerned that people all over the world are not doing enough to rescue the Palestinian children and their parents, asserting that he is haunted by the cries of Palestinian little kids wondering about where their parents were after they had been killed.

Some countries are moving beyond slogans and street rallies toward institutional action, as demonstrated in the United Kingdom with the formal launch of the Palestinian Embassy in London. The inauguration took place on January 5 at the Palestinian mission in Hammersmith, west London, marking its upgrade to full embassy status following the UK government’s decision to recognize the State of Palestine.

The event was held in a formal diplomatic setting and attended by Palestinian officials, British lawmakers, diplomats, and members of the public, with a flag-raising and official speeches highlighting the significance of the step. Palestinian Ambassador to the UK Husam Zomlot described the opening as a historic moment affirming Palestinian identity and the right to statehood, while speakers also drew attention to the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.

Solidarity with Gaza continues through the final days of January, as activists prepare for the national march titled End the Genocide Hands off GAZA Stop Arming Israel. The demonstration is scheduled for Saturday January 31 at 12 noon, with participants assembling in Russell Square in central London.

Organized by Palestine solidarity groups, the march calls on the British government to end its complicity in Israel’s ongoing violence against Palestinians and reflects the sustained presence of public mobilization in the UK in support of Gaza well into the new year.

Across the world, supporting Gaza and Palestine has taken many forms, from massive rallies to symbolic public displays high-profile advocacy by figures with widespread influence.

These actions, whether through marches, visual interventions, diplomatic recognition, or public speeches, demonstrate a continued global engagement with the Palestinian struggle and a refusal to let their plight go unnoticed, giving hope to the Palestinian people to realize their dream of living in a better Palestine, a free Palestine.
