'Only God Is Superpower': Iran Cleric Warns Recognizing US Might Undermines Monotheism

A senior cleric at the holy shrine of Lady Masoumeh in Qom has delivered a powerful message, reiterating the late founder of Iran’s Islamic Revolution, Imam Khomeini’s warning that recognizing any entity other than God as a superpower is a sign of weak monotheism.

Hawzah News Agency- Delivering a sermon on the significance of divine leadership and companionship with the truthful, Hojatoleslam Ali Khalilpour stressed that the only true superpower is God Almighty.

Citing verses from the Holy Quran, including Surah At-Tawbah and Surah Al-Fath, the cleric drew parallels to the Battle of Tabuk, one of the most challenging expeditions led by Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), marked by extreme heat, financial shortages, and a great distance. He noted how some Muslims at the time faltered in their faith and refrained from joining the Prophet, choosing worldly comfort over their duty to the guardian of their community.

The scholar explained that some individuals turned toward their wealth, children, and worldly ease, abandoning the Prophet’s call, a divine test echoed in the Quran.

Khalilpour spotlighted the fate of three individuals who deserted the Prophet during the Tabuk expedition, facing severe social isolation upon his return as even their families turned away from them. Their redemption came only after fifty days of sincere repentance and seclusion in the deserts of Medina, turning solely toward God, who ultimately accepted their penitence.

The senior figure then underscored Imam Khomeini’s revolutionary maxim: “If someone considers America a superpower, their Tawhid [monotheism] is weak,” emphasizing that power and authority belong exclusively to the Almighty.

Interpreting the final verses of his lecture, he defined piety as the vigilant safeguarding of one’s life and resources, warning that a lifespan not spent in the path of righteousness is inevitably wasted in transgression. He cited narrations from Imam Musa al-Kadhim (PBUH) confirming this spiritual principle.

Concluding his address, Khalilpour stated that the “truthful ones” mandated in the Quran for believers to accompany are none other than the Prophet’s purified household (Ahl al-Bayt). True companionship with them, he asserted, is manifested by walking behind the guardian of the society in both word and deed, embodying the four essential traits of piety, faith, benevolence, and patience.
