Hazrat Umm al-Banin (PBUH) a Model of Devotion to Imamate and Absolute Loyalty to Guardianship

A senior seminary scholar in Kashan says Hazrat Umm al-Banin (PBUH), the mother of Hazrat Abbas (PBUH), stands as a profound example of unwavering commitment to the Imamate and a perfect model of submission to guardianship for today’s revolutionary generation.

Hawzah News Agency- Hojatoleslam Hamidreza Fattalpour, a professor at the Dar al-Ilm Islamic Seminary founded by the late Ayatollah Etemadi, told Hawzah News that the life of Hazrat Umm al-Banin (PBUH) embodies guardianship not as a mere slogan, but as a lived reality that must be reflected across all individual and social dimensions.

He highlighted her role in raising children deeply rooted in the culture of martyrdom and sacrifice, noting that all four of her sons attained martyrdom in the company of Imam Hussein (PBUH) on the Day of Ashura.

“Hazrat Umm al-Banin (PBUH) nurtured her children on love for the Imamate and devotion to Islam from an early age,” Fattalpour said. “Her life provides significant lessons for today’s generation, which must focus on raising youth grounded in sacrifice, not materialism or individualism.”

The seminary professor emphasized her extraordinary patience following the tragedy of Karbala, saying she remained steadfast and voiced no complaints despite enduring immense loss. He called this resilience an important lesson for young Iranians facing contemporary challenges and external conspiracies.

Referring to her humility before the Imam of her time, Fattalpour noted that despite her revered position as the mother of Hazrat Abbas (PBUH), she always regarded herself as a servant of Imam Hussein (PBUH) and held deep respect for Hazrat Zaynab (PBUH) and the Ahl al-Bayt (PBUT). Such humility, he stressed, should guide today’s generation in their relationship with religious leadership.

Fattalpour also underscored Hazrat Umm al-Banin’s (PBUH) active role in transmitting the message of Karbala after Ashura. “She worked tirelessly to keep the memory of the martyrs alive,” he said, urging today’s revolutionary youth to safeguard and convey the values of the Islamic Revolution and pure Islam to future generations.

He cited her selflessness as another defining quality, recalling that upon learning of the tragedy of Karbala, she asked first about Imam Hussein (PBUH), not her sons. “This level of prioritizing ideals over personal interests is a powerful example for today’s guardians of the Islamic system,” he added.

Fattalpour concluded that Hazrat Umm al-Banin (PBUH) serves as a timeless role model for mothers, educators, and all those committed to raising a principled and resilient generation. By adhering to her example, he said, the younger generation can excel scientifically and culturally while standing firm in defense of Islamic values and the ideals of the Revolution—just as the sons of Umm al-Banin (PBUH) did.
