Hawzah News Agency- Muhammad ibn Ali Majilawayh narrated that his uncle Muhammad ibn Abi al‑Qasim narrated from Ahmad ibn Abi Abdullah, from al‑Hasan ibn Mahbub, from Umar ibn Yazid that Imam Sadiq (pbuh) said:
الْمَعْرُوفُ شَيْءٌ سِوَى الزَّكَاةِ، فَتَقَرَّبُوا إِلَى اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ بِالْبِرِّ وَصِلَةِ الرَّحِمِ.
Good deeds (al‑ma‘ruf) is something beyond giving charity. So seek nearness to Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, through being beneficent and maintaining kinship relations.
