Imam Hossein Is the Greatest Guardian of Islam: Marand Friday Imam

The Friday prayer leader of Marand City in Iran has described Imam Hossein as the greatest guardian of Islam, stressing that his path and conduct remain the ultimate criteria for seeking truth, sacrifice, and standing firm against injustice.

Hawzah News Agency- Addressing worshippers during this week’s Friday prayers in Marand, senior cleric Hojatoleslam Mohammad Pourmohammadi emphasized the need for constant vigilance, forward-looking movement, and avoiding negligence. He warned that a faithful society must not fall into stagnation or routine, noting that halting on the path of truth leads to both individual and social decline.

Referring to the spiritual significance of the months of Rajab and Sha‘ban and the approaching holy month of Ramadan, Pourmohammadi said these days offer a valuable opportunity for self-purification, strengthening piety, and reassessing one’s conduct and actions. He described Ramadan as the month of divine hospitality, stressing that it should be welcomed with repentance, inner reform, and sincerity in worship.

The cleric also congratulated the nation on the anniversaries of the births of Imam Hossein, Abbas ibn Ali, and Imam Sajjad (peace be upon them), as well as the occasions marking the Day of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards and the Day of Veterans.

“Imam Hossein (peace be upon him) is the greatest protector of Islam,” he said. “His life and legacy are the enduring benchmark for justice-seeking, self-sacrifice, and resistance against falsehood.”

Pourmohammadi underlined the central role of devotion to the Prophet’s Household in Islamic teachings, saying true love for them cannot remain confined to words or claims. “This devotion must be reflected in conduct, ethics, worship, simplicity of life, and overall lifestyle,” he said, adding that both worldly success and salvation in the hereafter depend on such conscious and practical devotion.

Warning against superficial religiosity and excessive materialism, he said worship becomes transformative only when accompanied by piety, righteous action, and avoidance of sin. “Faith without action will not lead a person to the destination,” he cautioned.

He also highlighted the importance of prayer, particularly night prayer and private communion with God, noting that the great figures of Islam attained high spiritual ranks through sincerity, asceticism, and self-discipline. “This path remains open to all believers,” he said.

Emphasizing social awareness, hope, and unity, Pourmohammadi warned that enemies consistently seek to halt the progress of the Islamic community by spreading despair and mocking values. “An aware and faithful nation can neutralize these schemes,” he said.

In closing, the Friday prayer leader urged worshippers to remain steadfast, make the best use of available opportunities, and prepare spiritually for the holy month of Ramadan, offering prayers for dignity, unity, and honor for the Islamic nation.
