Mirza Naeini, Standard-Bearer of the Link Between Religion and Politics: Seminary Official

The Chairman of the Assembly of Representatives of Qom Seminary, Hojatoleslam Seyyed Jalal Razavi Mehr, has described the late Ayatollah Mirza Muhammad Hussein Naeini as a leading figure in uniting religion and politics, emphasizing that Mirza Naeini’s school of ijtihad—rooted in the Qur’an and Sunnah—continues to guide the Islamic Ummah on the path of unity and religious governance.

In an interview with Hawzah News Agency, Hojatoleslam Razavi Mehr praised the management of the seminaries for organizing the International Congress of Mirza Naeini, calling it a valuable initiative to revive and promote the intellectual and jurisprudential heritage of great scholars.

He noted that Mirza Naeini was among the foremost jurists and scholars of ijtihad in the modern era, whose teachings produced generations of influential students in Najaf, Qom, and other seminaries across the Islamic world. “His scientific school,” he said, “was firmly grounded in the Qur’an, the Prophetic tradition, and the teachings of the infallible Imams (AS), and continues to shape contemporary Islamic scholarship.”

Highlighting Ayatollah Naeini’s belief in the inseparability of religion and politics, Razavi Mehr stated: “He firmly held that religion without a political and social dimension cannot achieve the full realization of Islamic teachings. His life and works clearly embodied the harmony between jurisprudence, politics, and Islamic governance.”

He further stressed that Mirza Naeini played a pivotal role in laying the intellectual foundations for the theory of Islamic government, inspiring a generation of students who carried forward his vision of unity, faith, and social justice.

“Mirza Naeini’s thought remains a beacon for the Muslim world,” Razavi Mehr concluded, “guiding scholars and believers toward an integrated understanding of religion, reason, and governance.”
