Hawzah News Agency- Speaking during a meeting with the head of the University Jihad of Qom Province, Ayatollah Arafi praised the institution for its revolutionary spirit and its contribution to the Islamic Republic's scientific and cultural movement.
“University Jihad is an institution born from the heart of the Islamic Revolution,” he said. “Its mission is to lead scientific progress, break deadlocks, and open new horizons through innovation and a culture of hope.”
Breaking the Legacy of "We Cannot"
Ayatollah Arafi addressed a long-standing psychological and historical challenge in Iran—the deeply rooted belief in national incapacity.
“For over a century, a sense of helplessness dominated, even among the elites,” he noted. “Although there were exceptions during the Safavid era or through figures like Amir Kabir and Mossadegh, the dominant mindset was still one of 'we cannot.'”
He stressed that this culture has begun to shift thanks to recent achievements, especially in the strategic defense sector.
“Missile advancements and other defense developments have clearly shown that we can. This success must now be expanded into all scientific and academic fields.”
Academic Jihad as Driver of Progress
He urged University Jihad to intensify its efforts to instill a national culture of capability and scientific excellence, especially among the youth and academic community.
“Academic Jihad must become the engine of scientific and technological progress both at the provincial and national levels. It should nurture hope, lead with Islamic and Iranian logic, and foster independence and national dignity.”
Ayatollah Arafi emphasized that building this culture of capability is not a side task but a central and long-term national project.
“This spirit must be embedded across all sectors—education, universities, seminaries, industry, and agriculture. It is a collective mission, and University Jihad is expected to guide and pioneer this effort.”
In conclusion, he reiterated the expectation that academic jihad institutions not only continue their scientific contributions but also lead with vision, awareness, and a transformative philosophy rooted in Islamic and Iranian values.
