Islamic scholars call upon faithful to unite against terror

An anti-terror conference of Islamic scholars held in India, Friday, condemned terrorist attacks that 'misused the name and spirit of Islam'.

Hawzah News Agency-The Shia-Sunni Movement India held a conference to commemorate Imam Hussain, grandson of Islamic Prophet, at New College in Chennai,India on Friday.

The conference, organised during the Muslim Hijrah month of Muharram at New College, featured talks on the grandson of the Prophet, Imam Hussain, and the sacrifice that the descendant stood for, about 1400 years ago, to fight tyranny, despotism and injustice.

Islamic scholars belonging to the Shia-Sunni unity movement from Uttar Pradesh, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Delhi and parts of Tamil Nadu condemned the terrorist activities in a talk titled 'Imam Hussain is Alive.'

Speaking at the conference, Ayotollah Hujjath-ul-Islam, Syed Mohammad Al-Moosavi, said that terrorism was a cancer and urged Muslims to be united.

"All Muslims must remain united through the principle of justice and peace. Muslims must unite against terrorism and terrorists. These people are against Islam and they have nothing to do with Islam. Islamic scholars must explain to the masses the real meaning of Islam, which preaches peace and justice," he said. The organisers of the conference said that it was conceived as an effort to spread the message that Islam promoted peace and brotherhood, never violence and terror.

Hyderabad-based Sadaay-e-Hussain editor Syed Jaffar Hussain, All India Ulama & Mashayeq Board president Syed Mohammad Alamgir and Ali Akbar from North Arcottook part. The meet was presided over by Salahuddeen Mohammed Ayyub Al-Azhari, the state chief khazi.
