Hawzah News Agency- A project being run across schools throughout Buckinghamshire aims to help pupils learn more about Islamic arts heritage.

Bucks County Museum in Aylesbury is involved in the Art in Islam Festival, funded by the Arts Council and local authorities.

Across the county a programme of schools activities have been commissioned using museum and other arts providers.

Work is being carried out in six schools by the Milton Keynes Islamic Arts Heritage and Culture Trust to help secondary school art departments present Islamic design sources in a series of processional banners that will be showcased in the Art in the Park events at Campbell Park, Milton Keynes on July 9.

The Al – Khayaal Theatre Company will be working in another four schools to develop theatre skills using Islamic stories.

Schools involved in the project include Highcrest Academy, High Wycombe, Chiltern Hills Academy, Chesham, Waddesdon Church of England School, Aylesbury, Stantonbury Campus, Milton Keynes, Sir William Ramsey Academy, Wycombe, Chiltern Hills Academy, Chesham, John Colet School, Aylesbury, Long Meadow School, Milton Keynes, and the Milton Keynes Academy.

The learning programme at Bucks County Museum includes family drop in workshops during May half term and four weeks of summer schools leading to the Arts Award bronze level qualification.

School workshops throughout the summer term will focus on geometric design, the art of storytelling and Islami.
