Hawzah News Agency- Speaking during Friday prayers at the Fatimiyya Grand Hussainiyas in Najaf, al-Qabanchi addressed the recent memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States.
"There is a global consensus that this memorandum has proven Iran's victory and strength, and that all attempts to overthrow Iran have failed," he said. The top cleric noted that the US president has admitted to the failure of efforts aimed at toppling the Islamic Republic's establishment.
"Dozens of attempts were made to overthrow this system, and all of them failed. This is due to the awareness of the people, the leadership, and the Hussaini concepts that fill their hearts and minds," al-Qabanchi stated.
However, he stressed that wounds remain open, declaring: "Nothing will heal our wounds except the elimination of the usurping regimes. We will remain until the reappearance of our Imam of the Age (may Allah hasten his reappearance)."
Welcoming Families of Minab Martyrs
On domestic affairs, the Najaf Friday Prayer leader hailed the reception of the families of schoolchildren martyred at the Minab school in Iran by the Holy Alawi Shrine, describing it as a reflection of the deep bonds between the Iraqi and Iranian nations.
"The holy shrines are at the forefront of affirming this bond, as the issue is one of religion, doctrine, and humanity, not a matter of geography, ethnicity, or economic interests," he said, expressing gratitude to the Alawi shrine and other holy sites in Iraq.
Solidarity with the Lebanese Nation
Turning to international affairs, al-Qabanchi condemned the ongoing Israeli aggression against Lebanon. "The repeated assaults against our people in Lebanon, continuing to this hour, represent a violation of all agreements and all human rights," he said.
"We unite our voice with the Shia of Lebanon, with Hezbollah in Lebanon, and with the entire Lebanese nation, and we call on the world to stand against these massacres."
Sermon: Why Do They Fight Hussein (PBUH)?
In his religious sermon, al-Qabanchi reflected on the second day of Muharram, recounting the moment Imam Hussein (PBUH) entered the land of Karbala and declared the site where his blood would be shed and his family violated, as foretold by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
"This means the Imam's uprising was a divine plan. We are confronted with a divine will and a heavenly plan in the Hussaini movement," he said, citing the well-known narration inscribed on the divine throne: "Hussein is the lamp of guidance and the ark of salvation." He added that every effort to extinguish this light has only increased its brilliance.
The Friday Prayer leader then posed a critical question: "Why do they fight Imam Hussein? And why do they fear the Hussaini rituals?"
Al-Qabanchi pointed to contemporary restrictions, asserting that certain Persian Gulf states today enforce bans on Hussaini rituals, employing the same policies once used by the Ba'athist regime.
To illustrate this parallel, he read excerpts from a former Iraqi Ba'athist directive dated March 25, 2001, on Muharram restrictions, which ordered a complete ban on processions, chest-beating in streets and homes, restrictions on eulogists, cassette tape inspections, and a prohibition on public food preparation, with violators facing trial.
"But Imam Hussein endured, and the enemies of Imam Hussein perished," al-Qabanchi declared. "Today, the enemies of Imam Hussein must beware that their end will be like the end of Saddam's former regime."
He concluded by extending gratitude to the Iraqi nation, all Shia followers of the Ahl al-Bayt, Hussaini processions, poets, eulogists, preachers, scholars, and the supreme religious authority for their role in keeping the message of Ashura alive.
