Hawzah News Agency- “Faith and religious conviction can lead humanity toward liberation and spiritual fulfillment,” Chiftchian said. “From the very beginning, divine religions have taught moral principles and accompanied humankind with reverence for God, guiding us in navigating between good and evil.”
Faith as a Guiding Force Across History
Chiftchian emphasized that the sacred names of God—whether Yahweh, God, or Allah—are recognized across the Abrahamic faiths, reflecting a shared spiritual heritage. “Religion has been with humanity since its inception, helping to govern life and ethical decision-making,” he said.
Addressing the intellectual and philosophical challenges of the modern era, the Catholicos noted that some scientific and philosophical trends have sought to marginalize or question the existence of a Creator. However, he stressed that scientific progress itself is a testament to the majesty and unmatched power of God.
Religions and the Pursuit of Justice
Highlighting contemporary social and political crises, Chiftchian warned against the rise of secularist and anti-faith currents that attempt to diminish moral awareness and fear of God in society. “Groups that seek to weaken divine consciousness and ethical principles ultimately undermine themselves and lose relevance in the hearts and minds of humanity,” he said.
He also reflected on the perennial human struggles for wealth and power, noting that while history is marked by wars and political conflicts, divine religions have never ceased advocating justice, cross-cultural understanding, and global peace.
Science, Ethics, and the Role of Religion
Chiftchian emphasized that scientific advancement, if not grounded in ethics, can become a tool for destruction rather than a source of peace. “Religions have a responsibility to guide humanity toward divine tranquility and away from violence,” he stated.
Concluding his address, the Armenian Catholicos stressed that those who heed the teachings of the divine faiths become more aware, enlightened, and capable of leadership. He called for continued interfaith dialogue and cooperation among followers of Abrahamic religions to alleviate human suffering and achieve lasting peace.
“By listening to the messages of our faiths, humanity can navigate challenges with wisdom, moral clarity, and a shared commitment to the common good,” Chiftchian said, urging religious communities to act as moral compasses in an increasingly complex world.
