Hawzah News Agency- Shaykh al‑Saduq narrated that his father narrated from Muhammad ibn Yahya al‑Attar, from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ʿIsa, from his father, from Hammad ibn Isa, from Umar ibn Udhaynah, from Aban ibn Abi Ayyash, from Sulaym ibn Qays al‑Hilali, from Imam Ali (pbuh) that the Messenger of Allah (pbuh and his family) said:
Scholars are of two types:
a scholar who acts upon his knowledge—this one is rescued;
and a scholar who abandons his knowledge—this one is ruined. Indeed, the people of Hell are harmed by the stench of the scholar who abandoned his knowledge.
And among the people of Hell, the most severe in regret and remorse is a man who invited a servant to Allah, Mighty and Majestic, and the servant was guided and obeyed Allah, so Allah included that servant into Paradise,while He admitted the one who invited into Hell because he abandoned his knowledge and followed his desires.
Then Imam Ali (pbuh) said:
Indeed, the thing I fear most for you are two traits: following desires and prolonged hope. As for following desires, it diverts one away from the truth; and prolonged hope makes one forget the Hereafter.
