Australian Prime Minister Rejects Netanyahu’s Claim Linking Bondi Beach Attack to Palestinian Statehood

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has strongly dismissed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s suggestion that Australia’s recognition of Palestinian statehood contributed to the deadly Bondi Beach attack targeting a Jewish event in Sydney, which killed at least 15 people and injured dozens.

Hawzah News Agency- Albanese emphasized that there is no connection between the recognition of Palestinian statehood and the attack, noting that the majority of the international community supports Palestinian statehood as a path forward in the Middle East.

Netanyahu had politicized the Bondi Beach attack, claiming Australia’s decision to recognize Palestine fueled “violent antisemitic acts,” and criticized Albanese’s approach as “weak and appeasing''.

Responding, Albanese stressed national unity, saying his focus is on bringing Australians together and preventing terrorists from dividing the nation.

While Netanyahu sought to shift blame toward Australia, public focus has increasingly turned to Israel’s ongoing genocidal campaign in Gaza. Since October 2023, protests across major Australian cities have condemned the Israeli attacks, which have killed over 70,000 Palestinians and caused widespread destruction. Social media and local reports indicate growing public outrage, with calls for the Australian government to condemn Israel’s actions and halt arms sales to Tel Aviv.
