Hawzah News Agency- “We have gathered at the United Nations with the slogans of peace, development, justice and progress while thousands of women and children are being bombed in Gaza and Lebanon these days,” Pezeshkian said, addressing a Tuesday meeting with leaders of divine religions in New York, where he later in the day addressed the 79th session of the UN General Assembly.

“This is truly shameful,” he deplored.

The Iranian president also emphasized that fighting oppression and injustice, treating people well, and following the path of truth and justice are common to the divine religions.

He said that in today’s world, all disputes and conflicts arise from selfishness and self-centeredness, which people have been warned to avoid in divine books and religions.

Pezeshkian referred to the pursuit of truth and justice as the distinguishing characteristic of followers of all faiths and said that if all people pursue the truth, there will be no disagreements and confrontations.

There has been no divine prophet who has endorsed telling lies or tolerating the oppression of people, he stated, adding, “If we are true followers of divine faith, we should not be indifferent to the suffering, injustice and oppression that have become prevalent in our earthly globe.”

He also expressed hope that the participation of faith leaders in the 79th session of the UN General Assembly would be helpful in conveying the message of humanity, the truth and justice.

Before the president’s remarks, the leaders of divine religions attending the meeting expressed their views about different issues, including the importance of development of academic exchanges among followers of faiths, the need for leaders and followers of divine faiths to play a role in promotion of peace in the world, and the use of religious leaders’ capacities to put an end to wars and the Israeli regime’s atrocities in the Gaza Strip.
