Raisi, 63, along with other senior officials including Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, were returning from the Khoda Afarin region in the northwest after inaugurating a dam at the border with Azerbaijan when their helicopter crashed on Sunday, killing all the passengers, according to Iranian state media.

The helicopter wreckage was found early on Monday in a dense forest after more than 15 hours of search operations hampered by poor weather conditions.

Ayatollah Seyyed Mohammad Taqi Modarresi, one of the Iraqi scholars, issued a statement expressing his condolences on the martyrdom of Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi and his companions.

In the name of God

It is with deep sadness that we received the news of the helicopter crash that led to the demise of the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Hujjat al-Islam Ebrahim Raisi, may God's mercy be upon him, and his companions.

There is no doubt that the loss of a scholar who is known for his service and sacrifice for his people is a great loss for the Islamic Republic of Iran and Muslims in general.

The enemies of Islam should not rejoice; Because the Islamic Republic of Iran, based on its strong principles, is advancing in the direction of promoting and elevating the mission of the Holy Quran, the Holy Prophet, and the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them), and many prominent elites in Iran are serving with honesty and sincerity to raise the flag of Islam and they will continue to serve Muslims.

We offer our condolences to the leadership and people of the Islamic Republic of Iran for this tragedy, and we ask the Almighty God for forgiveness and mercy for the deceased and his companions, to place them among their pure ancestors, and to give patience to his relatives and family. May he rest in peace.
