Hawzah News Agency –The Head of the Arabic Translation Team for Description and Availability of Resources and Director of Innovation, Research and Technology at the Library of Alexandria, Ms. Rania Othman, confirmed that the Library and Manuscripts House of the al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine is one of the libraries that worked hard and harnessed its capabilities to apply the instructions in describing and making available RDA.
This came during the scientific workshop that was held within the activities of the eighth edition of the Sharjah International Conference on Libraries in the United Arab Emirates, in which a delegation from the Center for Cataloging and Information Systems of the Department of Intellectual and Cultural Affairs at the al-Abbas's (p) Holy Shrine participated.
The official of the participating delegation and the director of the aforementioned center, Mr. Hassanein al-Moussawi, told Al-Kafeel Network: "The praise was heard by the participants, including librarians and library staff responsible for indexing, and it became an example for applying these instructions in describing and making resources available RDA."
He added: "This system, which we worked on and kept up with all its developments, has been adopted by most libraries and information centers, in order to fit these rules into the digital world, which includes a comprehensive set of rules and guidelines for indexers, which resulted in recordings that can be used in the digital environment, in addition to its prominent role in the multiplicity of its relations and the nature of the communication of its texts such as annotations, footnotes, summaries, and others, which lead to enabling the beneficiary to discover and access sources of information easily, and obtain them with the most accuracy and in the least possible time."
Al-Moussawi stressed that: "We deserve this praise as we made unremitting effort to work on this system, until he became well aware of the changes and updates to the RDA toolkit, including the concepts, which was confirmed by the International Federation of Associations and library institutions IFLA, and the Arab Federation for Libraries and Information, as the library is a prominent member.”
