Families of Disappeared Shiites Hold Protest in Karachi

Karachi– Families of Shiites who have been missing for years in Pakistan held a protest rally in Karachi, demanding the release of their loved ones and accountability from the authorities.

Hawzah News Agency- Men, women, and children of the disappeared attended the rally, carrying signs and calling for an end to what they described as years of silence and inaction. Protesters said many families have been left in uncertainty for over a decade, with some parents passing away without seeing their children again.

Addressing the gathering, Hojatoleslam Syed Fakhr Abbas Naqvi, President of the Imamia Students Organization of Pakistan, recalled the history of Shiite resistance, noting that “Shiism has even forced the dictatorial government of General Zia-ul-Haq to retreat.” He urged authorities to release all disappeared Shiites immediately, warning that otherwise, protests would continue across the country.

The wife of Azhar Abbas, one of the missing individuals, also spoke at the rally. With visible grief, she said many Shias have been disappeared for five, ten, or even twelve years without due process. She criticized the government and judiciary for what she called repeated delays and lack of action, adding that “if these people are accused of crimes, they should be tried in court; otherwise, they must be released with dignity.”

She stressed that families will continue to demand justice and raise their voices for the rights of the oppressed until the fate of the disappeared is clarified.

A large number of scholars and mourners of Imam Hussein (AS) also participated in the rally, expressing solidarity with the families. Organizers said the widespread presence of the people and religious figures demonstrated society’s support for the victims’ families and a united call for justice.
