Ayatollah Amoli Larijani: Iran Will Not Retreat from the Strait of Hormuz at Any Cost

The Chairman of Iran's Expediency Discernment Council has declared that the Iranian nation and its armed forces stand firm at the Strait of Hormuz, stressing that the Islamic Republic holds sovereignty over the strategic waterway and will not retreat from it under any circumstances.

Hawzah News Agency- Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani made the remarks at the opening of a council session in Tehran, where he began by offering condolences on the passing anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the martyrdom anniversaries of Imam Hassan (AS) and Imam Reza (AS).

Reflecting on the loss of the late Leader of the Islamic Revolution more than five months after his martyrdom, Ayatollah Amoli Larijani said the pain of his absence remains fresh. He described the late Leader as a unique and towering figure of the era, whose historical stature has become even more evident after his passing.

"He was a man of piety, knowledge, spirituality, and vast experience accumulated over years of leadership," Amoli Larijani said. "His character—combining deep insight, exceptional moral virtues, remarkable foresight, and a demeanor both compassionate and resolute—offers a rare model for our time."

The chairman called for a thorough study of the late Leader's words, personal conduct, and political legacy, stressing the need to reintroduce his character to both current and future generations.

He also paid tribute to the senior military commanders, government officials, and council members who lost their lives, describing them as devoted, humble, and faithful servants of the nation.

'The Nation Has Risen Anew'

Ayatollah Amoli Larijani said the Iranian people astonished the world in the wake of the Leader's martyrdom. "God revived this nation through the victory of His saints, enabling them to stand against the tyrants of history," he stated.

He praised the armed forces for defending the revolution and the country's security with full authority, despite suffering heavy casualties. "They have displayed the might of the Islamic establishment to the enemies and forced even Trump to acknowledge the Iranian nation's resilience," he added.

The senior official pointed to what he called arrogant remarks by the US president at the outset of the conflict, saying such words reeked of the hubris typical of history's oppressors. He expressed confidence that "God will humble these arrogant powers," echoing a prediction by the late Leader that tyrants would fall suddenly at the height of their power.

'Trump and Netanyahu Are War Criminals'

Ayatollah Amoli Larijani branded both Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu as war criminals under international law, citing the martyrdom of the Leader, the killing of children in Minab, casualties in Lamerd and other cities, and the destruction of cultural property. "To these criminals I say: the Iranian nation will never surrender, and further oppression will only harm you," he declared.

He asserted that the United States and Israel have failed to achieve any of their objectives, including destabilizing the Islamic establishment, disintegrating Iran, or crippling its armed forces, missile capabilities, and nuclear program.

"The people and armed forces of Iran are standing at the Strait of Hormuz, and sovereignty over this waterway belongs to the Islamic Republic," Amoli Larijani stressed. "We will not retreat at any cost. The Strait of Hormuz will not return to its previous status. If they seek free passage, they must comply with the terms of the agreement."

Call for Unity Amid Enemy Pressure

The Expediency Council chairman urged all branches of government to redouble their efforts to ease the people's burdens. He underlined that national unity must be preserved at all costs, with leadership as its central axis.

"Reason and religion demand that this unity be maintained," he said. "Any divisive remarks are a mistake. Today, we must speak with one voice in defense of the Islamic Republic, Islam, and the revolution, so that the enemies sense no rift among the people or officials."

He concluded that the path to victory lies through steadfastness and resilience, calling on the nation to navigate this difficult historical juncture with endurance.

Meanwhile, caretaker council secretary Abbasali Kadkhodaei noted the martyrdom of several council members and said, in accordance with regulations, replacements were selected for the supervisory board and key commissions during the session.
