Boroujerdi: If the War Escalates to a Full-Scale Conflict, the United States Will Pay a Higher Price

Alaeddin Boroujerdi, a member of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, stated that the United States would incur a much heavier cost if the conflict escalates into a full-scale war.

Hawzah News Agency- Speaking on Thursday, July 16, 2026, Boroujerdi stressed that “the Iranian Armed Forces have full control over the Strait of Hormuz.” He called on U.S. President Donald Trump to abandon what he described as his “false assumptions,” asserting that “the situation in the Strait of Hormuz will never return to what it was before the 40-day war''.

Boroujerdi added that the coordination between military operations and diplomacy has shifted the balance in Iran’s favor, describing the consolidation of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz as one of the key achievements of both the battlefield and diplomatic efforts.

He further explained that the primary objective of negotiations and diplomacy, alongside the operational activities of the armed forces, is to safeguard the interests of the Islamic Republic of Iran, describing this approach as both rational and principled.

Concluding his remarks, Boroujerdi said: “As long as Trump remains President of the United States, any scenario is possible because of his unpredictable behavior. However, if the war escalates into a full-scale conflict, the Americans will pay a far greater price, both now and in the future''.
