Hawzah News Agency- In a wide-ranging message, Ayatollah Alireza Arafi, the director of Iran's Islamic seminaries, framed the commemoration of Ashura not as a historical lament but as an active, forward-looking manifesto for Islamic civilization. He identified nine key strategies derived from the Karbala event, declaring that any retreat from national sovereignty or compromise with the "usurping Zionist regime" constitutes a modern-day pledge of allegiance to the "Yazid of the era."
A Blueprint for Reform, Not a Tragedy
Ayatollah Arafi stressed that the battle of Karbala must be seen through the lens of a civilizational mission, combining grief with epic action. "Imam Hussein (PBUH) must be introduced to the youth and global public opinion not as a defenseless, isolated victim, but as an architect of the future," the statement read.
He argued that the core of Imam Hussein’s movement was a structural response to a deep deviation designed to erase divine revelation and paralyze Islam as a comprehensive system of life. This historical mission grants absolute legitimacy to contemporary reform movements confronting the distortion of Islamic identity.
Technology, Economy, and the "Demand for Reform"
In a significant pivot to modern statecraft, the cleric defined the greatest manifestation of Imam Hussein's "demand for reform" in the current era. He pointed to the necessity of mastering cutting-edge sciences, artificial intelligence, and achieving economic sovereignty. Ayatollah Arafi emphasized that the Islamic Ummah must free itself from the whip of international extortion to shift the balance of power in favor of the oppressed.
No Compromise with Occupation
Linking the doctrine directly to geopolitics, the message was unequivocal on foreign policy. "Any retreat from national sovereignty or agreeing to compromise with the usurping Zionist regime—which seeks to destroy the Palestinian cause and commit genocide against our oppressed people—is a reproduction of allegiance to the Yazid of the time," Ayatollah Arafi stated. He identified the steadfastness of Iran, Lebanon, and the entire regional front as the living, concrete extension of the Battle of Karbala.
The statement called for absolute support for resistance networks and the protection of Holy Quds to achieve deterrence and authority, framing absolute opposition to modern hegemony as the geopolitical translation of Imam Hussein’s rejection of humiliation.
Unity and the Role of Elites
The message concluded with a call to transcend sectarian strife. Ayatollah Arafi warned against foreign-engineered projects of division, urging elites and seminaries to form a unified civilizational front. He cautioned that the silence of the Ummah's elites in the face of the distortion of religious values and the genocide of oppressed nations mirrors the apathy of those who abandoned the Imam in 61 AH.
The victory of the oppressed, the cleric declared, is a divine certainty, framing this season of mourning as a decisive step toward presenting a global model that aligns with human nature and conscience.
