Hawzah News Agency- Hojatoleslam Mehdi Meshki-Baf, a faculty member at the University of Islamic Studies, examined the regional and global consequences of the resistance battle and explained the developments that followed the historic Operation Al-Aqsa Storm.
Marking the third anniversary of the epic of October 7, 2023, Meshki-Baf said Operation Al-Aqsa Storm is one of the most prominent accelerators of geopolitical change and the shift in the balance of power from the West toward the East. In the scholarly literature of international relations, he said, this major event can be described as a catalyst for the transfer of power and a fundamental component of the new world order's architecture, moving beyond unipolar hegemony toward a multipolar system centered on the East.
He continued that despite some initial questions and ambiguities regarding the timing or starting point of the action, three years on, its strategic effectiveness is now visibly manifest in global relations.
Collapse of the Abraham Accords
The seminary and university professor described the collapse of the notorious normalization strategy as the first achievement of this battle, saying Al-Aqsa Storm dismantled the paradigm of normalizing political ties with the Zionist regime under the so-called Abraham Accords and returned the Palestine issue to the center of international attention. After the events of 2007 and the establishment of Hamas's democratic governance in the Gaza Strip under the late Ismail Haniyeh, Washington and Tel Aviv launched a 16-year plan, he said.
He added that the plan was based on managing the attrition of livelihood crises to collapse the Strip from within and marginalize the Palestine issue—aiming to reduce this deep-rooted resistance to a purely humanitarian matter and push Palestine into geopolitical isolation. But the bravery of the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades nullified the one-sided security ceasefire and reminded the world that no lasting stability can be established in West Asia without fundamentally realizing the rights of the Palestinian people.
Proven Autonomy Within the Resistance Coalition
Meshki-Baf then explained the second outcome of Operation Al-Aqsa Storm, stating that another fundamental fruit of this struggle was the evolution of the deterrence doctrine and the proof of the model of "intra-coalition autonomy" across the resistance front. Before this event, he said, the arrogance powers' media trumpets claimed that the region's jihadist groups were merely proxy arms of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
He continued that the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution had always emphasized the complete independence of the resistance front members' will, and Al-Aqsa Storm made this strategy practically evident. As the Leader explicitly stated two days after the battle, on October 9 at the Police Sciences University, the Islamic Republic of Iran had no involvement in designing the operation but kisses the arms of the Palestinian fighters.
The faculty member praised the active regional diplomacy in the days after the conflict began, adding that during that critical period, the enduring efforts of the martyr of diplomacy, Dr. Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, in touring regional countries embodied the simultaneous management of the battlefield and diplomacy. Subsequent developments in Syria, Lebanon, Yemen and Iraq also confirmed the independent convergence of the resistance's components, which achieved unity of arenas while maintaining operational autonomy.
A Strategy of Tension Management
The seminary and university professor said that within this framework, the Islamic Republic of Iran, by adopting the prudent strategy of "managing tension and preserving credibility," turned the conflict into a process of attrition. By proving its intellectual maturity in the face of the Pentagon and Tel Aviv's miscalculations, it illustrated the groundwork for the visible decline of American power in the recent battle.
Referring to global trade developments, he described victory in the war of transit corridors as the third achievement of this epic, noting that becoming the dominant pole of the global economy depends on supremacy over land corridors and water passages. At the G20 summit in September 2023, he said, the mega-project of the IMEC trade corridor—connecting India, the Middle East and Europe—was unveiled, with the Zionist regime set to play the role of the central highway.
IMEC Corridor Hit a Dead End
Meshki-Baf stated that the precondition for implementing this international project was the guaranteed security of the occupied territories and the public unveiling of the normalization process with Saudi Arabia, which had been gradually prepared since 2022. But the outbreak of Al-Aqsa Storm and the widespread anger of Muslim societies over war crimes in Gaza destroyed the regime's security component at its root and brought Riyadh's joining of the process to a dead end.
He described the security consequences of this campaign in maritime highways as fateful, emphasizing that Operation Al-Aqsa Storm challenged the logistical arteries of global capitalism—so much so that the valiant fighters of Yemen's Ansarullah, within the same framework of intra-coalition autonomy, blocked the strategic Bab al-Mandab chokepoint to Zionist movements.
Redefining Maritime Security
The seminary and university professor added that this courageous approach affected 12 to 15 percent of international trade and more than 30 percent of the world's container transit, forcing ships to reroute toward the Cape of Good Hope. The sharp drop in Suez Canal traffic, increased sailing distances, the surge in the price of 40-foot containers from $1,500 to $5,000–10,000, and the imposition of inflationary waves shook the security foundations of capitalism and sent a historic message affirming the rule of "security for all or no one."
In conclusion, he noted that this historic event drew a line through the Pentagon's hollow hegemony and made clear that the era in which Washington presented itself as the world's undisputed regulator has ended, and a new power called the resistance front has risen.
