Hawzah News Agency- Sheikh Hamid Jalaleh, the senior cleric of the Shia community in Tanzania, made the remarks during a ceremony marking the birth anniversary of Imam Mahdi (may God hasten his reappearance), held concurrently with the 47th anniversary of the victory of Iran’s Islamic Revolution. The event took place at the al-Mustafa International University Hall in the Kigamboni district of Dar es Salaam.
Addressing scholars, religious figures, and worshippers, Sheikh Jalaleh said that Islam which draws inspiration from the culture of Karbala is an Islam that confronts oppression and defends truth and justice.
He explained that the victory of Islam is not accidental, but rather the result of adherence to lofty Qur’anic principles and living according to the path of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), alongside firm belief in Imam Mahdi as the divinely guided leader who will establish global justice.
“Islam possesses many secrets of victory,” he said, “among them are living by the teachings of Imam Hussein and maintaining faith in the reappearance of Imam Mahdi as the hope for the establishment of justice throughout the world.”
Sheikh Jalaleh went on to describe the Islamic Republic of Iran as a major pillar of Islamic strength, saying it remains the only political system that openly defends Islam based on wisdom, resistance, and righteous leadership. He noted that this leadership was founded by Imam Khomeini and has continued under the guidance of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
The Tanzanian cleric stressed that Islam is a religion of dignity, not humiliation, citing Imam Hussein’s famous declaration, “Far from us is humiliation.” He said Islam rejects submission to oppression and instead calls for a life of honor, courage, and struggle against injustice, grounded in truth and justice.
He further noted that an Islam inspired by the political and moral vision of Karbala is one that recognizes its enemies, confronts injustice, and works toward the establishment of justice on a global scale.
Leadership and the Future of the Ummah
Turning to the issue of leadership, Sheikh Jalaleh said the power of Islam flows from the presence of resolute Islamic leadership, religious scholars, and the representative of Imam Mahdi in the era of occultation. He stressed that such leadership is capable of guiding the Ummah through crises, instilling calm, resilience, and hope for victory even in the most challenging circumstances.
“An Islam that believes in this leadership will never be shaken,” he said, adding that faith in the eventual downfall of oppression and the triumph of justice ensures the endurance, dignity, and grandeur of the Islamic Ummah.
In his concluding remarks, Sheikh Jalaleh called on Muslims to adhere firmly to the authentic Islam of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and to organize their lives around the values and traditions of Karbala, so that the Islamic Ummah may continue its path of progress while preserving its strength and dignity.
The ceremony was attended by a number of prominent religious figures from Tanzania, including the head of the Tanzania Reconciliation and Peace Society (JMAT), Dr. Sheikh Al-Hadd Musa Salim, as well as the host and organizer of the event, Dr. Ali Taqwa. Worshippers and community members from various districts of Dar es Salaam were also present.
