Hawzah News Agency- Latif Abdulzahra, the head of the Manuscript Restoration Department at the Center for the Preservation of Manuscripts and Document Archives at the Astan of Hazrat Abbas Shrine (PBUH), said “As part of the 2025 program, the center has begun restoring the rare Quran manuscript from the 10th century, which is housed in the library of the Abbasi shrine.

He explained that the restoration process involves several stages, including biological and chemical examinations, repairing existing cracks in the manuscript, restoring the cover, and creating a special box for its preservation before returning it to the shrine's treasury.

Abdulzahra detailed the initial phase of the restoration, which includes a comprehensive examination of the manuscript, its paper, colors, decorations, and inks used in its writing.

He went on to say, “We photograph the damages and number the pages according to the order of the Quran before starting any restoration.”

He further explained that the manuscript has suffered biological and chemical damage due to environmental factors and improper storage, leading to broken pages and detached sections.
