Hawzah News Agency- With the funeral date set, administrative and logistical preparations have accelerated to ensure the success of this historic event, as widespread enthusiasm surges across all segments of Iraqi society for active participation.
Organizational and Logistical Preparations
A high-level committee has been formed to facilitate the event, comprising various bodies including the Prime Minister's Office, the Hashd al-Shabi organization, the governorates of Najaf and Karbala, the holy shrines of Imam Ali, Imam Hussein, and Hazrat Abbas (PBUT), as well as the interior and transport ministries and other state institutions.
Speaking at a press conference, Lieutenant General Saad Maan, official spokesman for the special media committee for the funeral of Martyr Imam Khamenei, announced that Tuesday will witness the official reception ceremony for the body of Martyr Imam Seyyed Ali Khamenei, attended by top government and religious figures from Iran and Iraq. The massive public funeral procession will begin on Wednesday at 6:00 AM.
He detailed that the procession route in Najaf will proceed from the Kufa Bridge toward the Thawrat al-Ishreen Bridge and onward to Al-Sadrain Square, allowing the people to take part in the farewell ceremony. In Karbala, the route will run from the Sayyid Jawda intersection along the Governorate Street toward the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussein, followed by the Holy Shrine of Hazrat Abul Fadhl al-Abbas (PBUH).
Maan explained that a comprehensive security plan has been drawn up with the participation of ministries, institutions, and security and service agencies to provide necessary services to participants.
He urged citizens, religious delegations, Hussaini mourning processions, and participating groups to fully adhere to regulatory and security instructions as they are gradually issued by relevant authorities.
Official Holiday Declared in Iraqi Provinces
In parallel, local governments in several Iraqi provinces—including Dhi Qar, Wasit, Karbala, Najaf, Basra, and Baghdad—have declared the closure of official offices on Wednesday to enable public participation in the funeral. Other governorates are expected to follow suit, while parliamentary and social circles have called on the Iraqi government to declare Wednesday a nationwide public holiday.
Massive Tribal Participation
Tribes and clans across southern Iraq, the mid-Euphrates region, and central areas have announced their readiness to take an active part in the funeral procession. Numerous tribal sheikhs and elders have called upon their members to gather in Najaf and Karbala on Tuesday, aiming to pay tribute to Martyr Imam Khamenei and cement a lasting stance in honor of his consistently honorable positions toward Iraq and the Iraqi people.
Meanwhile, dozens of mourning processions and service stations have begun providing food, drinks, and rest areas for the vast crowds of participants.
Strong Turnout of Elites
As high-ranking official delegations and political, religious, social, and cultural figures took part in the funeral ceremonies in Tehran, hundreds of government, political, religious, tribal, and academic figures—including ministers, party leaders, governors, scholars, university professors, tribal sheikhs, seminary students, and university students, both men and women—are set to attend the upcoming ceremonies in Najaf and Karbala.
