Hawzah News Agency- In a statement on Friday, Türk said the proposals before the Israeli Knesset to lower the threshold for capital punishment raise “serious concerns” over discrimination, violations of due process, and breaches of both international human rights and humanitarian law.
Palestinian advocates have warned that the legislation eliminates longstanding safeguards for Palestinian defendants and forms part of a broader effort to strip Palestinians of protections under international humanitarian law.
The bill comes amid continued Israeli military operations in the West Bank and Gaza, where tens of thousands of Palestinians have been killed since Israel’s war on the besieged territory began in October 2023.
