Hawzah News Agency | The Almighty God declares in the Holy Qur’an:
“Indeed those who recite the Book of Allah and maintain the prayer, and spend secretly and openly out of what We have provided them, expect a commerce that will never go bankrupt.” (Surah Fātir, 35:29)
Explanation:
Imam Hadi, peace be upon him, compares this world to a marketplace, saying:
“The world is a market in which some people gain profit while others incur loss.” (Tuhaf al-Oqul, v. 1, p. 483)
The Holy Qur’an likewise identifies a group of people in this marketplace of the world as those who suffer loss.
... so their trade did not profit them. (Surah Baqarah, 2:16)
And It regards another group as those who continually pursue a trade that yields pure profit and never incurs loss.
... expect a commerce that will never go bankrupt. (Surah Fātir, 35:29)
On one hand, the Qur’an portrays God as the Buyer,
Indeed Allah has bought from the faithful their souls and their possessions for paradise to be theirs. (Surah Tawbah, 9:111)
On the other hand, It identifies the human being as the seller.
And among the people is he who sells his soul seeking the pleasure of Allah. (Surah Baqarah, 2:207)
The fruit of this divine transaction is nothing less than eternal happiness — the everlasting success of the believer.
So rejoice in the bargain you have made with Him, and that is the great success. (Surah Tawbah, 9:111)
Therefore, a rational and contemplative person never agrees to sell their precious capital at a trivial price.
Our life, our faith, and the many divine blessings we enjoy are the true assets entrusted to us for exchange in this short-term worldly trade.
Truly, can there be any buyer better than the incomparable God?
And is there any price higher than Paradise — the manifestation of the boundless mercy of the Most Generous?
Thus, the Commander of the Faithful, Imam Ali, peace be upon him, declares:
“Surely, the price of your soul is nothing but Paradise; therefore, do not sell yourself for anything less than Paradise.” (Ghurar al-Hikam, v. 1, p. 177)
