Colombian President Sends Seized Gold to Aid Gaza’s Wounded Children

Colombian President Gustavo Petro has announced that gold seized from smugglers will be used to provide medical aid for wounded children and help rebuild war-torn Gaza.

Hawzah News Agency- In a post on his official X account, President Petro said: “I have ordered the Special Assets Association to dedicate the seized gold to the treatment of wounded children in Gaza.”

The Colombian leader emphasized that this initiative goes beyond immediate relief, revealing plans to submit a draft resolution to the United Nations calling for the creation of a “global army” tasked with rebuilding Gaza and supporting the Palestinian people.

Since the beginning of the Israeli aggression on Gaza, Petro has taken a strong and consistent stance in defense of the Palestinian cause. He previously condemned the detention of two Colombian citizens by Israeli forces during the “Sumud” humanitarian flotilla mission, describing the act as an “international crime.” The Colombian government later facilitated the return of some of those detained with the support of the Special Migration Fund.

Petro clarified that the resources being sent to Gaza are not taken from Colombia’s public budget, but from assets confiscated in legal cases against criminal organizations. He described the move as part of his government’s “humanitarian foreign policy,” stressing that Colombia seeks to play an active role in the reconstruction of Gaza and in supporting affected children and families.

This decision reflects Colombia’s solidarity with the Palestinian people and its commitment to alleviating the humanitarian suffering caused by war and inequality. Human rights advocates have praised the move as a significant step toward protecting children and civilians in times of crisis.
