When is Sadaqah Permissible for the Prophet’s Progeny?

Hadith of the Day is a daily feature highlighting timeless sayings of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and the Ahlul-Bayt (pbut), offering insights into faith, ethics, and spirituality for contemporary life.

Hawzah News Agency- Shaikh al-Saduq narrated from his father (may Allah be pleased with him) who narrated from Ahmad ibn Idris, from Muhammad ibn Ahmad, from Yusuf ibn al-Harith, from Muhammad ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Arzami, from his father, from Imam Sadiq (pbuh), that his father Imam Baqir (pbuh) said:

لَا تَحِلُّ الصَّدَقَهُ لِبَنِی هَاشِمٍ إِلَّا فِی وَجْهَیْنِ إِنْ کَانُوا عَطَاشَی وَ أَصَابُوا مَاءً فَشَرِبُوا وَ صَدَقَهُ بَعْضِهِمْ عَلَی بَعْضٍ.

Charity (Sadaqah) is not permissible for Bani Hashim (the progeny of the Holy Prophet) except in two cases: if they are thirsty and one provides them water to drink, and the charity of some of them to one another.
