Hawzah News Agency- From childhood through his youth and his confrontation with the rule of Muawiyah, the Imam (PBUH), with courage, insight, and an enlightening spirit, stood against oppression and deviation and made the message of justice and truth clear to the people of his time, Hojatoleslam Mohammad Amin Pouramini told IQNA in an interview on the birth anniversary of Imam Hussein (PBUH).
Referring to an example of Imam Hussein’s (PBUH) conduct in the face of Muawiyah’s rule, he said: “Muawiyah had come to Mecca and Medina for Hajj and Imam Hussein (PBUH) gave a speech in Mina. More than a thousand people were present and in this speech Muawiyah was referred to as ‘Taghiyah’, meaning a tyrant. In addition, the Imam mentioned the virtues of Ahl-ul-Bayt (PBUT) as mentioned in the Quran and hadiths and then addressed the people, saying, ‘You, from whatever tribe you are, convey my matters and words to others.’ This indicates the importance of using the extraordinary capacity of the Hajj days and the holy land of Mina to enlighten and explain the truths to the masses.”
It is interesting that according to the narrations of historians, when Imam Hussein (PBUH) delivered his speech, the companions also acknowledged that they had heard the virtues of Ahl-ul-Bayt (PBUT), the scholar said.
Hojatoleslam Pouramini said another position that Imam Hussein (PBUH) took against Muawiyah was the severe rebuke he addressed to Muawiyah regarding the martyrdom of Hujr ibn Adi and his companions.
“Muawiyah wrote a letter to Imam Hussein (PBUH) and the Imam (AS) also replied to his letter; the content of this letter is very strong and sharp.”
Explaining the contents of this letter, he added, “In that letter, Imam Hussein (PBUH) has introduced Muawiyah as responsible for the crime of killing Hujr ibn Adi and his companions. He emphasizes that Hujr ibn Adi was one of the righteous servants of God and a person of divine obedience and fought against oppression and wrongdoing; but because his fight against the oppression of Muawiyah’s government was unbearable for him, he had him martyred.”

Hojatoleslam Pouramini added that the Imam (PBUH) also addressed Muawiyah and said that among your crimes was that you exiled people from Medina and their homeland to foreign lands, and that you took allegiance from people for your drunkard and gambler son by force, coercion, and threats, and betrayed the people in government affairs.
The seminary scholar went on to say, “If we put all of this together, the conclusion is that Imam Hussein (PBUH) was trying to explain the truth and question the usurping rule of Muawiyah. It also shows that this is a special position for those whom the Messenger of God (PBUH) had appointed as his successors, namely Ali ibn Abi Talib (PBUH) and his descendants, the infallible Imams (PBUT), and that Muawiyah usurped the rightful caliphate of Ahl-ul-Bayt (PBUT).”
