Hawzah News Agency- Speaking at the 11th Scientific and Research Congress of Allama Baladi Bushehri in Iran on Wednesday, Nasser Abu Sharif, the PIJ representative in Tehran, said Palestine should not be viewed through a narrow political or interest-based lens, stressing that it now stands as a moral and human benchmark for the international community.
Referring to recent developments in Gaza, Abu Sharif rejected what he described as superficial narratives that assess wars solely in terms of military victory or defeat. He said the Israeli regime failed to achieve any of its stated objectives in the latest war, adding that neither Palestine, nor the resistance front, nor the Islamic Republic of Iran were defeated.
He noted that despite Israel’s extensive military capabilities and what he called unlimited US and Western support—including the continuous supply of large quantities of explosives—the regime was unable to break the resistance in Gaza. Abu Sharif said that even under a complete siege, with severe shortages of water, food, medicine, and fuel, and amid unprecedented bombardment, Gaza did not surrender.
The PIJ official described one of Israel’s most significant losses as the collapse of its moral and political narrative. He said the regime, which for years portrayed itself as democratic and a defender of human rights, has now lost that image and is increasingly being identified in international courts and institutions as an occupying regime accused of crimes against humanity.
Abu Sharif added that public opinion in the United States and other Western countries has shifted noticeably against Israel. Citing opinion polls, he said support for the Palestinian people—particularly among younger generations—has risen, while backing for Israel has sharply declined, a development he described as deeply troubling for the regime’s main allies.
He further said Israel’s setbacks extend beyond the moral sphere, pointing to what he called deep economic, social, and political crises, as well as elite emigration, internal divisions, and growing factional disputes as indicators of internal erosion.
Emphasizing the continuity of resistance, Abu Sharif said Palestinian resistance has not diminished but has diversified, encompassing media, legal, and popular dimensions at the global level. He noted that numerous legal cases are now being pursued against Israel and that international support for the resistance has expanded.
Concluding his remarks, Abu Sharif warned against divisions within the Islamic world, saying disunity remains the greatest weakness of the Ummah. He stressed that while differences of opinion are natural, division is unacceptable, calling on religious and intellectual elites to manage disagreements and strengthen unity in support of the Palestinian cause.
