Hawzah News Agency- In Islamic supplications and Ziyarat, the lofty spiritual and divine positions of Imam Mahdi (may Allah hasten his reappearance) are frequently mentioned. Below are some of these key titles and roles:
Caliph of Allah, Proof of Allah
In Ziyarat Al-e Yasin we read:
“Peace be upon you, O Caliph of Allah and supporter of His truth. Peace be upon you, O proof of Allah and guide to His will.”
This reflects one of the highest stations bestowed by Allah upon Imam Mahdi (AS): to be His Caliph (representative) on earth and the living proof of His will. In this role, he is unparalleled in his era.
Bab Allah (Gate of Allah), Sabeel Allah (Path of Allah)
Again, in Ziyarat Al-e Yasin we recite:
“Peace be upon you, O Gate of Allah.”
And in Ziyarat of Amir al-Mu’minin (AS):
“Peace be upon you, O Path of Allah. Whoever follows any other path is doomed.”
The title “Gate of Allah” signifies that the only way to approach Allah, obey His commands, and attain His pleasure is through belief in and obedience to Imam Mahdi (AS). Likewise, “Path of Allah” indicates that closeness to Allah can only be achieved by following the guidance of the divinely appointed Imam.
Allah’s Covenant, Allah’s Promise
In Ziyarat Al-e Yasin we also read:
“Peace be upon you, O covenant of Allah that He took and strengthened. Peace be upon you, O promise of Allah that He guaranteed.”
The title “Covenant of Allah” means that Imam Mahdi (AS) embodies the very agreement Allah has taken from His servants. Remaining loyal to him is equivalent to upholding the entirety of divine law, while abandoning him is akin to breaking all of God’s covenants.
“Promise of Allah” refers to the divine assurance in the Qur’an that the righteous will rule the earth and that truth and justice will prevail. Imam Mahdi (AS) is the fulfillment of that promise—the awaited figure whose emergence will realize the mission of all prophets, revive divine law, and spread goodness across the earth.
The Eye of Allah, the Watcher
In a supplication from Imam Reza (AS), we read:
“And Your eye is the watcher over Your creation, and Your witness over Your servants.”
This indicates that Imam Mahdi (AS), as God’s proof and representative, is ever-watchful over creation. All deeds—whether public or hidden—are within his knowledge. Awareness of this reality can inspire believers toward greater self-purification and moral discipline.
Imam Mahdi (AS) himself is reported to have said:
“Indeed, Our knowledge encompasses your conditions, and nothing of your affairs is hidden from Us.” (Al-Ihtijaj, Vol. 2, p. 495)
