Arbaeen Walk: A Living Manifestation of Faith and Unity

The Arbaeen Walk, marked by the unprecedented presence of millions of devotees of Imam Hussein (AS), is hailed as one of the most powerful expressions of faithful life—particularly in an age dominated by materialism.

Hawzah News Agency- Far beyond a historical commemoration, this annual pilgrimage is a vibrant re-enactment of the truth written in Karbala in 61 AH with the blood of the Master of the Martyrs (AS) and his companions, continuing to inspire resistance, reflection, and moral awakening across centuries.

Historically, Arbaeen gained significance when the Ahlul Bayt (AS) returned from Syria to visit the graves of the Karbala martyrs, accompanied by the Prophet’s companion Jabir ibn Abdullah Ansari. Over time, it has evolved into a global showcase of the "good life"—an ideal rooted in truth-seeking, service, and moral commitment.

Sacrifice and Service Beyond Borders
Hojatoleslam Amir Mohsen Erfan, faculty member at the University of Islamic Education, describes the Arbaeen walk as “a clear manifestation of sacrifice and sincere service to the pilgrims of Imam Hussein (AS), free from material motives and built on love and brotherhood.” He emphasized that these acts of generosity stem from the teachings of Sayyid al-Shuhada (AS), forming a distinctive Husseini lifestyle.

Global Unity Through Love for Imam Hussein (AS)
Erfan noted that devotion to Imam Hussein (AS) transcends languages, nationalities, and even religions, uniting people from across the world in a shared journey of love. Pilgrims serve each other without expectation of reward, creating an atmosphere of compassion, trust, and solidarity rarely seen in other societies.

Social Cohesion Around the Imamate
Narjes Shokrzadeh, a researcher at the Women Seminary, highlighted the pilgrimage’s role in fostering social solidarity. Quoting a hadith from Hazrat Fatima (PBUH), she said that God has made obedience to the Ahlul Bayt (AS) the source of order in the nation and their leadership the cause of unity. “Arbaeen is a living example of this unity of faith,” she said, adding that shared religious convictions strengthen societal harmony.

The Spirit of Sacrifice
Shokrzadeh also noted the deep generosity tied to the event. Many Iraqi families save all year to host pilgrims, while in Iran, people contribute financially to ensure others can attend—even if they cannot make the journey themselves. “These acts of selflessness are the fruit of the teachings of the Commander of the Martyrs,” she said.

Each year, the Arbaeen Walk stands not only as a commemoration of Karbala but also as a living demonstration of faith, compassion, and unity that continues to inspire millions worldwide.
