Ramadan; An Opportunity for Cultural Diplomacy among Islamic Nations

The representative of the Supreme Leader in Iraq pointed to the role of Holy Month of Ramadan in strengthening diplomatic ties among Muslim nations and considered the expansion of cultural diplomacy using this capacity essential.

Hawzah News Agency - In an interview with Hawzah News correspondent, Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini, a member of the Assembly of Leadership Experts, emphasized the role of Ramadan in strengthening cultural and spiritual diplomacy and stated,” Fasting throughout the Islamic world strengthens the feeling of unity and kindness among Muslim nations.”

Stating that cultural and religious harmony during Ramadan can strengthen relations between Islamic countries, the member of the Assembly of Leadership Experts stated,” If one limits diplomacy only to relations among states, Ramadan may not have a direct impact on it, but if we expand the concept of diplomacy to relations among nations and empathy between Muslim communities, Ramadan will play a key role as a spiritual common point. Fasting throughout the Islamic world creates a sense of empathy and unity among nations, and this empathy strengthens love and friendship among Muslims.”

Pointing to the role of governments in this regard, Ayatollah Hosseini noted,” Just as some countries cooperate on Nowruz and its ceremonies to strengthen this event as a point of cultural commonality, the month of Ramadan can also create a basis for mutual relations among Islamic countries. Governments can create a basis for closer ties between Muslim nations by coordinating and exchanging cultural and religious programs during the month of Ramadan.”

He continued by pointing to the role of religious authorities and scholars in expanding these connections, saying,” In the Shiite world, the spiritual and jurisprudential bond with the great religious sources of imitation transcends geographical boundaries. This spiritual connection is a form of religious and cultural diplomacy that transcends geographical boundaries.”

The Supreme Leader's representative in Iraq added, "The month of Ramadan is an opportunity that, beyond politics and geographical borders, strengthens the atmosphere of convergence and unity among Muslim nations. This spiritual connection will pave the way for constructive interactions and friendly relations among nations, and it is hoped that this solidarity will lead to the strengthening of international relations in the Islamic world."
