Hawzah News Agency- Speaking at a mourning gathering in the Tral region of Kashmir, Hojatoleslam Seyed Mojtaba Abbas Mousavi stated that the true value of a human being does not lie in the body or material appearances, but in the heart, soul, faith, and divine knowledge. He described the world as a means to reach perfection, not an ultimate goal, warning that whenever attachment to worldly affairs dominates the heart, the ground for spiritual decline is paved, whereas divine knowledge guides the human being toward truth and perfection.
Knowledge: The Foundation of Faith and Love for the Ahl al-Bayt
Citing the teachings of the Holy Quran, the Kashmiri cleric stressed that true faith is built upon recognition and knowledge. When a person recognizes the truth, the heart bears witness to it, and this very recognition leads to genuine love for God, the Holy Prophet (PBUH), and the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them).
He emphasized that mourning for Imam Hussein (PBUH) is not a mere display of emotion but a conscious act of worship born of knowledge, rationality, and insight. The tears shed for Imam Hussein and presence in mourning gatherings signify the deep bond of believers with faith, truth, and Wilayah.
Imam Hussein's Uprising: The Practical Continuity of Ghadir
Pointing to the position of Wilayah in Islamic thought, Hojatoleslam Mousavi stated that the doctrinal foundations of Islam rest upon the finality of Prophethood, the perfection of religion, the completion of divine favor, and the system of Wilayah. The Holy Prophet (PBUH), through delivering these teachings, charted the course of human guidance until the Day of Judgment.
He described the uprising of Imam Hussein (PBUH) as the practical continuation of Ghadir's message, adding that when Islamic society fell prey to deviation, oppression, and estrangement from the original prophetic teachings, Imam Hussein, through his uprising and martyrdom, preserved pure Muhammadan Islam from distortion and destruction, keeping the truth of the faith alive forever through his sacred blood.
Ashura: The Criterion for Distinguishing Truth from Falsehood
The Kashmiri scholar noted that the Karbala movement taught Muslims that power and truth do not always follow the same path, and that the sole criterion of truth is the Holy Quran, the Sunnah of the Prophet (PBUH), and the teachings of the Ahl al-Bayt (PBUT). Had the Ashura uprising not taken place, he argued, the true face of the Yazidi regime would never have been exposed to the Islamic Ummah.
Referring to the tragedy of Harrah, he stated that Yazid's crimes following Ashura—including the assault on the holy city of Medina—further illuminated the righteousness of Imam Hussein's uprising, proving that the Ashura movement was a struggle to preserve Islam and defend human dignity.
Linking Ashura to the Culture of Awaiting
Addressing the profound connection between the message of Ashura and the culture of awaiting the Savior, the cleric said that mourning for Imam Hussein is not solely for expressing grief. Its purpose is to nurture faithful, justice-seeking, and responsible human beings, and to prepare society to assist Imam al-Mahdi (may God hasten his reappearance) in establishing the global government of divine justice.
In concluding, Hojatoleslam Mousavi called upon the faithful to practically apply the teachings of Muharram and Ashura, stressing that preserving divine knowledge, clinging to the Wilayah of the Ahl al-Bayt, taking the Hussaini path as a model, and standing against oppression constitute the secret to the perfection of faith, the honor of Muslims, and felicity in this world and the Hereafter. He urged mourners to transform the message of Ashura into their way of life and to continue the path of the Master of Martyrs with insight, faith, and steadfastness.
