IRGC awaiting US navy in Strait of Hormuz: Spox

Spokesperson of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Brigadier General Ali Mohammad Naeini says the Iranian elite forces are waiting for the US naval forces in the Strait of Hormuz.

Hawzah News Agency- In remarks on Saturday, Brigadier General Naeini reacted to US President Donald Trump’s pledge regarding opening the Strait of Hormuz, warning, “Iran strongly welcomes US naval escorts for oil tankers and the claim of American forces’ presence for passage through the Strait of Hormuz — and we are actually waiting for their arrival.”

He added, “We advise US officials — before any decision — to recall the burning of the American supertanker Bridgeton in 1976, and the recently targeted oil tankers.”

Earlier, he said that Iran is prepared for a prolonged war until the aggressor is punished.

Brigadier General Naeini added that the enemy should expect painful blows in every operational wave, emphasizing that Iran’s new innovations and weapons are forthcoming and have not yet been utilized on a wide scale.

The US and the Israeli regime launched joint military aggression on Iran on February 28 some eight months after they attacked the country in June last year. Both attacks came as Tehran was in the midst of diplomatic talks with Washington over its peaceful nuclear program.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei was assassinated in a US-Israeli terrorist airstrike targeting his residence and office early on Saturday.

Analysts see this as proof of US preference for military force over diplomacy. In response, Iran carried out targeted, proportionate self-defense strikes against Israeli positions and US regional bases, warning that further aggression will face a harsher response.
