Who Not to Ask for Advice

Hadith of the Day is a daily feature highlighting timeless sayings of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and the Ahlul-Bayt (pbut), offering insights into faith, ethics, and spirituality for contemporary life.

Hawzah News Agency- Muhammad ibn Musa ibn al-Mutawakkil (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated from Muhammad ibn Yahya al-Attar, from Muhammad ibn Ahmad, from Muhammad ibn Adam, from his father, via his chain of transmission, who said: The Messenger of Allah (pbuh and his family) said:

O Ali! Never consult a coward, for he will narrow your way out of a situation. Never consult a miser, for he will hold you back from your goal. And never consult a greedy person, for he will beautify voracity (excessive desire) to you.

Know, O Ali, that cowardice, stinginess, and greed are fundamentally a single instinct, brought together by a lack of trust [in Allah].

Al-Khisal,Book 3,Hadith 57
