Hawzah News Agency- Mercenary elements and civilian militia forces affiliated with Bahrain’s Interior Ministry have imposed a severe security blockade and tight restrictions on the town of Al-Diraz, west of the capital Manama. The siege prevented Shiite worshippers from holding the central Friday prayers for the 88th consecutive week.
The mercenary forces, backed by military vehicles and heavily armed units, reinforced their presence around the Imam al-Sadiq Mosque. The move was aimed at confronting possible public protests against the security and religious siege imposed on the rituals of the Shiite community, expressing solidarity with political prisoners, and voicing opposition to the normalization of ties with the Zionist regime and the American military presence in the country.
In many regions of Bahrain, popular demonstrations were held despite the tight security cordon. Protesters at these rallies called for the "emptying of prisons" and the immediate freedom of all Shiite religious scholars and political detainees. They also condemned the ruling regime’s ban on Shiite Friday prayers, the imposition of official control over religious affairs, and the continued restrictions on religious freedoms on the eve of the Ashura season (the month of Muharram). The demonstrators demanded an end to the policy of sectarian persecution and racial discrimination against Shiites, as well as a halt to the attacks on all authorities, figures, institutions, and principles of the Jafari school of thought.
The protesters further reaffirmed their supportive stance toward the Islamic Republic of Iran in its battle for deterrence against American and Zionist aggression. They declared their loyalty to the "Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei," and the Secretary-General of Lebanon’s Hezbollah, "Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah." The crowds also called for an end to the American presence and the expulsion of foreign military bases, to pave the way for the realization of full sovereignty and security within the country. They additionally stressed the necessity of canceling the normalization agreement with the Zionist enemy, expelling the occupation’s ambassador from the country, and closing its embassy in Manama.
Bahraini authorities have banned the holding of Friday prayers since October 4, 2024. The move followed popular insistence on holding commemorative ceremonies for Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, the martyred Secretary-General of Hezbollah, staging demonstrations in support of the Islamic resistance fronts in Lebanon, Palestine, and Yemen, and protests against the normalization agreements with the Zionist regime.
