Hawzah News Agency — Speaking at a celebration marking the birth anniversaries of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq (AS) at the Hazrat Abolfazl (AS) Grand Mosque in Tehran, Hojatoleslam Javad Toubaei emphasized that Unity Week represents an unparalleled opportunity to revisit the prophetic tradition and reinforce the spirit of brotherhood among Muslims.
The gathering brought together prayer leaders, mosque volunteers from southern Tehran and members of religious organizations.
Unity: The Most Pressing Need of the Islamic World
"Unity and solidarity within the Islamic Ummah stand among the most critical needs of the Muslim world today," Toubaei stated. "Muslims must rely on their shared religious foundations and the teachings of the Prophet of Mercy (PBUH) while remaining vigilant against movements seeking to sow discord among them."
The scholar warned that adversaries of the Islamic Ummah have consistently sought to magnify differences and create distance between Muslims.
"Strengthening unity, deepening insight and recognizing common ground represent the most effective means of countering these conspiracies," he said.
Toubaei asserted that Muslims who gather under the umbrella of divine authority and adhere to prophetic teachings can stand firmly against divisive currents and present a model of coexistence, brotherhood and solidarity to human society at large.
A Divine Mandate for Unity
Citing the Qur'anic verse "And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided" (3:103), Toubaei described the existential philosophy of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as a moral exemplar serving as the foundation for unity across the entire Islamic community.
"The most important shared message among all Islamic schools of thought is the emphasis on brotherhood, mutual understanding and focus on agreed-upon commonalities," he noted.
The scholar characterized unity in the current era as "an unavoidable necessity" in the struggle against global arrogance.
"Enemies of Islam seek to weaken the Islamic Ummah by exploiting ethnic, sectarian and political differences," Toubaei said. "Therefore, focusing on shared ground and avoiding factors that breed division can serve as a turning point for solidarity and the empowerment of Islamic society."
The Critical Role of Islamic Scholars
Hojatoleslam Toubaei highlighted the vital role of scholars from all Islamic schools of thought in achieving this objective.
"By holding firmly to the Holy Qur'an, promoting the culture of brotherhood, emphasizing commonalities and refraining from negative propaganda, scholars can guide Islamic society toward empathy and cohesion," he stated.
He lamented that the greatest damage inflicted upon Muslim unity stems from distancing from the Qur'an and prophetic tradition, as well as fueling disputes and negative campaigns against fellow Muslims.
Youth: The Vanguard of Unity
The scholar placed particular emphasis on the role of the younger generation in realizing genuine unity.
"The youth and the new generation possess the greatest capacity to reach the frontiers of brotherhood and solidarity within the Islamic Ummah through awareness-building on the subject of unity and recognition of commonalities among Islamic schools of thought," Toubaei said.
Unity Week: A Platform for Renewal
Hojatoleslam Toubaei described Unity Week as an opportunity to rediscover the multifaceted dimensions of the Prophet's character — religious, moral, social, political and anti-imperialist.
"This occasion can serve as a practical covenant to keep the prophetic tradition alive and to follow the Prophet's individual and social ethics and conduct," he said.
The scholar further emphasized the role of mosque prayer leaders in strengthening national unity, noting that mosques, religious seminaries and religious organizations serve as foundations for reinforcing the sacred unity of the Iranian nation against the conspiracies of American and Zionist adversaries.
