Hawzah News Agency- Hojatoleslam Seyyed Mousa Mousavi said the late Leader of the Islamic Revolution consistently emphasized the significance of Islamic unity throughout his blessed life, particularly during Unity Week, offering profound guidance for Muslims across the globe.
"The Holy Quran introduces the Muslim community as the 'best of nations' and has made enjoining good and forbidding evil—inviting to values and confronting anti-values—among the most important missions of Islamic society," Mousavi stated. "Our late Imam repeatedly stressed that in our era, the highest good to which society must be invited is unity, and the most dangerous vice capable of dismantling society and all its achievements is discord, division, and hypocrisy."
The official noted that one of the most significant blessings of the late Leader's tenure was the creation and expansion of a culture of unity. He recalled that Imam Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic, had called the society toward unity and warned against the consequences of division, with the late Leader subsequently organizing unity efforts in line with those guiding principles.
"Unfortunately, through the conspiracies of enemies of Islam, unity had drifted away from Muslim societies, and the Islamic Ummah had become entangled in burning divisions—divisions that were among the primary factors enabling colonial domination over Muslim nations," Mousavi said.
He emphasized that from the very beginning of his leadership, the late Leader made the organization of unity a strategic objective—one not confined to Iranian society alone but encompassing the broader Muslim community.
Formation of Islamic Ummah Essential for Salvation
Referring to the late Leader's recent emphasis on the necessity of forming an Islamic Ummah, Mousavi said: "In recent years, he repeatedly conveyed the luminous message that the only path to our society's salvation is the formation of the 'Ummah.' Beyond Shia and Sunni and followers of various schools of thought standing together within the country and reviving Islamic brotherhood, the more critical matter is shaping an Islamic Ummah—an Ummah that can serve as the foundation for Islamic civilization."
World Forum for Proximity: Strategic Step Toward Unity
Mousavi described the establishment of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought as one of the late Leader's blessed initiatives in the path of realizing unity.
"One of the late Leader's fortunate steps was creating the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought. The Imam of the community had invited Muslims to unity and efforts had been made, but society needed an institution within the Islamic Revolution and the Islamic Republic system to take charge of the unity issue and work to develop the culture of brotherhood among Muslims both domestically and internationally," he explained.
He noted that over the years since its founding, the Forum has successfully pursued numerous programs at national and international levels. This year marks the 40th International Islamic Unity Conference, which annually brings together influential figures and elites from across the Islamic world who can impact their respective communities.
80 Foreign Guests Attending 40th Unity Conference
Addressing this year's challenging circumstances, Mousavi said: "Despite all existing conditions and the wartime situation and extensive sedition created by the enemy, adversaries made great efforts to prevent the World Forum from inviting foreign guests to this year's conference. However, I can claim that this year will witness one of the best editions of this gathering."
He said the martyrdom of the late Leader created a wave throughout the Islamic world. "The Holy Quran invites the Muslim community to 'hold fast to the rope of Allah,' and the late Leader's personality and leadership generated affection in Muslim hearts that transcended governmental and geographical boundaries, overcoming seditions."
Mousavi continued: "Today we witness that not only in Islamic societies but even in non-Islamic communities, love for the Supreme Leader and affection for the Islamic Republic system is expanding day by day—despite the enemy's all-out efforts to prevent this trend."
He revealed that some muftis invited to the congress were officially threatened by Saudi Arabia and certain other governments against traveling to Iran, yet despite such pressures, approximately 80 foreign guests will attend this year's Unity Conference.
"A portion of these guests are muftis from Islamic countries, some are ministers of religious endowments and senior officials of Islamic states, and others are elites and influential figures of the Muslim world," Mousavi stated.
Academic, Cultural, and Media Figures at Unity Conference
Highlighting a new approach in this year's conference, Mousavi said: "This year, a new program has been organized within the congress, and ten 'human-media' figures from around the world—individuals with millions of followers and listeners in the media space—have been invited to participate."
He noted that in the early years of the conference, religious scholars and clerics from the Islamic world were the primary participants, with criticism raised about the need to invite academic, cultural, and socially influential figures as well.
"Fortunately, over the past two years, we have witnessed the presence of influential academics and well-known figures from the Islamic world at this conference. Additionally, women who are influential and impactful figures in their respective countries have been invited and will attend this edition," Mousavi added.
He emphasized that a comprehensive group of influential personalities has been invited this year, with a full program developed and currently being implemented.
Opening Ceremony in Tehran with President in Attendance
Discussing the program for the 40th International Islamic Unity Conference, Mousavi said part of the events will be held in Tehran, with the congress's opening ceremony featuring an address by the president. Speeches by foreign dignitaries in attendance will also be delivered.
He said a full day has been allocated for the conference in Tehran, with various side programs arranged for foreign guests, including meetings with certain officials and visits showcasing the achievements of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Showcasing Islamic Republic's Achievements to Muslim World Elites
Mousavi underscored the importance of introducing Iran's accomplishments to foreign guests, saying: "One of the challenges we face today is that many Muslims around the world are genuinely unaware of our country's progress and uninformed about the Islamic Republic's achievements. Introducing these accomplishments to influential figures of the Muslim world carries immense significance, as they can relay this information in their countries and have a considerable impact on public opinion."
He added that visits to key achievements of the Islamic Republic have been scheduled as part of the conference program, with a meeting also planned with the foreign minister to brief international guests on the country's political situation.
Closing Ceremony in Mashhad
Mousavi concluded by noting that the closing ceremony of the 40th International Islamic Unity Conference will be held in Mashhad, given the presence of the holy shrine and the luminous resting place of the late Leader, allowing foreign guests to perform pilgrimage while participating in the concluding programs.
"Various programs have been arranged for this segment, and the closing events of the 40th International Islamic Unity Conference will take place in Mashhad," he stated.
