Scholar: Defying Truth Brings Inevitable Collapse, Calls for Global Moral Awakening

Senior Iranian Islamic Scholar Grand Ayatollah Abdullah Javadi Amoli has warned that resisting truth inevitably leads to the destruction of both individuals and societies, stressing that truth is invincible and that every human being is duty-bound to fulfill their moral and divine responsibilities.

Hawzah News Agency- Speaking during his weekly ethics lecture at the Grand Mosque of Qom, attended by various segments of the public, the senior cleric elaborated on a well-known saying of Imam Ali (peace be upon him):


«مَنْ أَبْدَى صَفْحَتَهُ لِلْحَقِّ، هَلَكَ»
(“Whoever turns his face against the truth will perish.”)

Ayatollah Javadi Amoli said truth is a powerful, resilient, and undefeatable reality, adding that the entire order of existence bears witness in its favor. “Any individual or society that stands against truth is inevitably doomed to defeat and destruction,” he emphasized.

He noted, however, that while falsehood is bound to fail, human beings remain responsible for acting correctly within the divine order. “Anyone who confronts the truth will certainly be defeated,” he said, “but at the same time, every human being in this universe is obligated to properly carry out their duty.”

The senior cleric explained that among all creatures, only human beings deviate from the path of truth through sin and misguidance. He identified three distinct sources of deviation: ignorance (jahl), personal folly (jahalat), and societal ignorance (jahiliyyah).

“Ignorance must be addressed by seminaries and universities, personal folly by mosques and religious centers, and jahiliyyah by the system of Imamate and the conscious Ummah,” he said, adding that the ultimate mission of religious leadership is to guide society away from collective ignorance toward truth.

Addressing the issue of spiritual fatigue, Ayatollah Javadi Amoli cited another wisdom attributed to Imam Ali (peace be upon him):


«إِنَّ هَذِهِ الْقُلُوبَ تَمَلُّ كَمَا تَمَلُّ الْأَبْدَانُ، فَابْتَغُوا لَهَا طَرَائِفَ الْحِكْمَةِ»
(“Indeed, hearts grow weary just as bodies grow weary, so seek for them fresh expressions of wisdom.”)

He explained that just as the body requires rest and care, the heart can also become weary and requires treatment through divine wisdom, Qur’anic verses, heartfelt supplications such as Munajat Sha‘baniyyah, and spiritual closeness to the shrines of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them). “If the heart is fatigued, a person will not benefit properly from worship,” he warned.

The senior scholar further noted that while the hands and tongue are merely instruments that will testify on the Day of Judgment, the heart represents the essence of the human being. He cited the Qur’anic verse:


يَوْمَ تَشْهَدُ عَلَيْهِمْ أَلْسِنَتُهُمْ وَأَيْدِيهِمْ وَأَرْجُلُهُمْ بِمَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ
(“On the Day when their tongues, their hands, and their feet will bear witness against them for what they used to do.”)

He explained that crimes such as bribery, embezzlement, and betrayal originate in the heart, not in the hands or tongue. “The limbs testify, but the heart confesses, because the root of betrayal lies in the heart,” he said.

Ayatollah Javadi Amoli warned that a weary heart leads to exhaustion and depression, stressing that the essence of humanity lies in the heart. “Since the heart finds rest only in its Creator, attachment to anything other than God results in spiritual fatigue and heedlessness,” he said, urging believers to guard their hearts carefully.

In his concluding remarks, the senior cleric said that although the heart has the capacity to heal itself, it requires constant vigilance and reminders. Practices such as self-accountability and moral exhortations, he noted, serve as spiritual wake-up calls that protect the heart from negligence.

The session concluded with Ayatollah Javadi Amoli offering prayers for the success of society, government officials, and the Islamic system under the guidance of the Qur’an and the Ahl al-Bayt.
