Two Major Encyclopedias Unveiled at International Conference «Sayyid Mujahid» in Iraq

In the opening ceremony of the International Conference «Sayyid Mujahid and His Scientific Heritage» in Najaf al-Ashraf, the Legal Supervisor of the Holy Shrine of Hazrat Abbas (peace be upon him) unveiled the published volumes of two major research projects.

Hawzah News Agency- With the aim of honoring the memory and intellectual legacy of the Mujahid scholar, Ayatollah Sayyid Muhammad Tabatabaei, known as «Sayyid Mujahid», the international scientific conference titled «Sayyid Mujahid and His Scientific Heritage» was opened on Wednesday in the holy city of Najaf al-Ashraf in Iraq.

This important scientific event was organized in collaboration with three institutions: the Holy Shrine of Hazrat Abbas (peace be upon him), the Supreme Committee for Heritage Revitalization, and the Sheikh al-Tusi Research Center, in Karbala and in the Holy shrine of Hazrat Abbas (PBUH).

Unveiling Two Great Treasures of Scholarship and Research

The highlight of the opening ceremony was the historic unveiling of two massive encyclopedias that are the result of years of collective research by distinguished scholars. In a grand ceremony, the Legal Supervisor of the Holy Shrine of Hazrat Abbas (peace be upon him), Hojatoleslam Sayyid Ahmad Safi, lifted the veil from these two works.

Serious Warning from the Guardian of the Holy Shrine of Hazrat Abbas Regarding the Fate of Written Heritage

In the speech section of the ceremony, Hojatoleslam Syed Ahmad Safi, the legal guardian of the Holy Shrine of Hazrat Abbas (peace be upon him), while praising the scientific stance of Sayyed Mujahid, focused his main remarks on issuing a serious warning about the impending dangers to the written treasures of scholars and emphasized the critical importance of preserving and safeguarding them.

He, referring to Iraq's tumultuous history that has always led to instability and threats to scientific treasures, warned: "Unfortunately, many manuscript copies have not reached us. If action is not taken to collect them now, they might be sold at the 'lowest price' to those who do not appreciate their value, leading to their history and content being lost and their fate becoming unknown."

Then, to illustrate the consequences of negligence, he recounted a bitter memory from the Shabaniyeh Intifada (1991) and added: "It is undeniable that we witnessed how, during that period, many of these precious heritage sites were torn apart by the evil forces in power at the time and even used as fuel, for example, to make tea!" He described this as a cultural disaster that should not be repeated.

He emphasized that paying attention to the heritage of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) and Shia scholars is a "moral and religious duty," and clarified that the Holy Shrine of Hazrat Abbas (peace be upon him), aware of this danger, considers the preservation and revival of this heritage a serious priority.
