Hawzah News Agency- Speaking at the international conference “Where Is the Islamic World?” held at the Islamic and Technical University in Gaziantep, Turkey, Hojatoleslam Vaezi said that division and disunity remain the main challenges facing the Muslim world. He rejected claims by some Western thinkers that the concept of a unified Ummah is a political creation, asserting that it is a fundamental Quranic principle.
Quoting the Holy Quran, he said:
“Indeed, this Ummah of yours is one Ummah, and I am your Lord, so worship Me.” (Al-Anbiya: 92)
Vaezi explained that the Ummah’s disunity does not negate this divine truth but reflects a historical deviation from it. He noted that despite its vast population and resources, the Islamic world remains fragmented in the face of Zionist oppression and global arrogance.
He attributed this weakness to two major causes: external structural imposition and internal disunity. The first, he said, is the “nation-state system” — a foreign model introduced after the decline of Islamic governance, built on national interests rather than the interests of the Ummah. “This structure,” he said, “has turned earthly borders into sacred lines and replaced the unity of faith with the politics of division.”
The second cause, according to Vaezi, is ignorance of commonalities and the exploitation of sectarian and ethnic differences. He criticized those who turn scholarly disagreements into instruments of takfir (excommunication), fueling discord among Muslims.
The Qom Seminary professor also warned against two great delusions weakening the Islamic world — fear of one’s own incapacity and fear of the enemy. Quoting the Holy Quran, he said:
“It is only Satan who frightens you of his allies, so fear them not, but fear Me if you are believers.” (Aal-e-Imran: 175)
Hojatoleslam Vaezi praised the steadfastness of Palestinian resistance fighters in Gaza and the support of resistance movements in Lebanon, Yemen, and Iraq, saying their courage has shattered the “barrier of fear and illusion” created by global arrogance.
He concluded that the perseverance and sacrifices of the resistance have revived the spirit of hope within the Islamic Ummah, proving that faith, unity, and resistance can overcome even the most oppressive powers.
