Hawzah News Agency- The event focused on key themes, including the foundations of Western thought, strategies of Western domination, colonial history, and the cultural and intellectual tools used to extend Western influence across the world.
Hojatoleslam Ali Taghavi, the regional representative of Al-Mustafa International University in Tanzania, said the initiative aims to open a scholarly and civilizational dialogue on the Islamic world’s engagement with Western civilization. He noted that the series of conferences is inspired by the strategic ideas of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution on building modern Islamic civilization.
Taghavi outlined three main axes of discussion: understanding the intellectual and philosophical roots of Western civilization; developing an active, critical, and self-aware approach to it; and promoting intellectual synergy between seminary and university scholars.
He emphasized that true engagement with the West requires a deep understanding of its epistemological and identity dimensions — beyond mere political or technological imitation — and that Islamic societies must recover their internal capacities to present a spiritual and human-centered alternative to material Western civilization.
Organizers expressed hope that the conference will mark the beginning of a new phase in civilizational scholarship and the growth of modern Islamic thought on the African continent, paving the way for further specialized academic exchanges.
