Speaking at a mourning ceremony marking the martyrdom of Lady Fatimah al-Zahra at Qom’s Amir al-Momenin Seminary, Grand Ayatollah Naser Makarem-Shirazi explained the virtues of this noble lady and said that resorting to Lady Fatimah al-Zahra solves problems and added, “Especially when internal and external problems surround us, we must increase resorting to Lady Fatimah al-Zahra so that we can solve our problems through the favours of this lady and her intercession before God.”

The revered source of emulation emphasized on the importance of revitalizing the personality of women in Islam and said, “Contrary to the Western claim to be defenders of women’s rights, they have violated women’s rights, prestige and dignity.”

He stated, “By abolishing the false customs and traditions among the Arabs of the era of ignorance and establishing the value system which ruled based on pure Islamic values, the Prophet of Islam made women the owner of their personalities.”

Ayatollah Makarem-Shirazi added, “In some backward areas of the Islamic world, women and girls are still deprived of their inheritance. Unfortunately, the ignorant system still exists in some places.”

The teacher of post-graduate classes in the Islamic Seminary of Qom criticized the view that women are tools in the world today and said, “Although the Western world seems to speak of women’s rights outwardly, in practice, women have been used as tools for their worldly greed and sensual desires.”

He said, “The seemingly civilized world of the West has summarized the character of women in nudity, cravings and similar issues.”

Ayatollah Makarem-Shirazi stressed that in today’s world and in the United States, racism is still rampant and African-Americans are under a lot of pressure but in Islam the criteria of piety and righteousness are superior and race, ethnicity and tribe aren’t the norm.
