Hawzah News Agency- Hojatoleslam Majid Heydarifar, speaking at a Quran interpretation session at the Holy Shrine of Lady Masuma in Qom, pointed to the approaching anniversary of the Prophet's passing and highlighted verse 151 of Surah al-Baqarah, saying the Prophet was tasked with reciting divine verses to the people, purifying them, and teaching them the Book and wisdom—knowledge that would have been impossible to attain without the guidance of revelation.
He noted that the Quran, in various verses, describes numerous qualities and attributes of the Prophet of Islam, with verses 157 and 158 of Surah al-A'raf standing out as among the most comprehensive. In these verses, the Prophet is introduced as a messenger, a prophet, an "unlettered" figure, one who commands what is right, forbids what is wrong, makes pure things lawful, and declares impure things unlawful. The Quran, he said, emphasizes the Prophet's unique station in guiding society.
Addressing the term "ummi" or unlettered in the Quran, Hojatoleslam Heydarifar clarified that the Prophet had not learned reading or writing from any human teacher. His knowledge, he said, was divine and directly inspired, received from the source of revelation itself.
The scholar went on to say that the Quran also notes that the characteristics of the Prophet were foretold in the Torah and the Gospel. The People of the Book were familiar with his signs and attributes, yet some, out of prejudice and opposition, refused to accept the final Prophet.
He also spoke about the Prophet's mission of enjoining good and forbidding evil, explaining that this duty differs from simple guidance, counsel, or preaching. Enjoining good, he said, means commanding within the framework of one's religious authority and responsibility.
In closing, Hojatoleslam Heydarifar returned to verse 151 of Surah al-Baqarah, saying the Prophet's mission was to recite divine verses, purify the people, and impart knowledge that could never have been reached without revelation. Understanding the character of the Prophet and the teachings of the Quran and the Ahl al-Bayt, he concluded, is what allows human beings to draw ever more deeply from the well of divine guidance.
