Pakistan Opposition Leader Calls for Protection of Muharram Observances, Warns Against Sectarianism

The Chairman of the Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen Pakistan, Senator Raja Nasir Abbas Jafri, has emphasized that the month of Muharram is a shared heritage of all Muslims, calling for enhanced protection of mourners and respect for religious freedoms.

Hawzah News Agency- Speaking to reporters, Jafri said that devotion to Imam Hussain (PBUH) and the Ahl al-Bayt of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is an inseparable part of the faith of every Muslim. He stressed that it is the responsibility of the state to ensure full security for mourning processions and to provide all necessary facilities for the observance of religious ceremonies.

He further noted that holding mourning gatherings within private premises does not require official permission, citing a clear ruling of the Lahore High Court in this regard. He added that filing cases against organizers of such gatherings constitutes a blatant violation of constitutional rights and religious freedoms.

The MWM chief also warned against attempts by anti-Pakistan elements to incite sectarianism and spread hatred during the days of Muharram. He expressed confidence that the people of Pakistan, being aware and patriotic, would not allow such conspiracies to succeed, stressing the need for decisive action against those undermining national and Islamic unity.

In a separate remark, Jafri referred to a surge of unity and solidarity within the Muslim Ummah following the “martyrdom” of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Hosseini Khamenei. He said preserving this cohesion is a vital necessity for the Muslim world, urging unity in the face of external plots and hostile agendas.
